  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And we are done. Buh bye.
I don't understand. You are neither unfavorable of Teump's peace through strength nor Obama/Biden's peace through appeasement? But if you are done, then I guess we are done.

I can not speak for all veterans, only myself. For myself I do not want a war but I also know that the only way to oppose Putin's aggression is through strength of arms. Appeasement will not work. I also do not think Putin is stupid enough to start a war with us over the munitions we are supplying.

I'm not talking about appeasing Russia, just about both parties coming to the table for peace.

Ukraine is going to have to give something but Russia will as well. No one is getting everything they want, but they do both have to decide what they are willing to give in the cause of peace.

Russia has indicated a willingness to come to the table for peace and Zelinsky has as well when he's not being pressured by us ..

So, I believe there's something there we can do.

Perhaps some posters don't have a simplistic black or white partisan view of the situation.

Exactly.
Putin is not going to attack NATO.

In days gone by you wouldn't have the President-Elect declare an intention to reach a peace settlement between two countries at war and have the current acting President act in a manner that makes it far far more difficult to find peace.

What "we" as the United States can do is to strengthen (not weaken) Ukraine's position at the negotiating table.

Ukraine currently has control of Russian territory. Putin is attempting to take it back and has deployed North Korean troops to do so (along with Russian units). Biden has given the green light for Ukraine to use longer range missiles to undermine Russia's ability to re-take that territory. Clearly, if Russia succeeds, Ukraine would enter any peace negotiations in a weaker position.

In the first detailed reporting of what President Putin would accept in any deal brokered by Trump, the five current and former Russian officials said the Kremlin could broadly agree to freeze the conflict along the front lines.

......

In total, Russia has over 110,000 square km of Ukrainian territory. Ukraine holds about 650 square km of Russia's Kursk region.
