  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Walters orders public schools show students video of him speaking politically-charged opinions, praying for Donald Trump

Hm - I still see nothing wrong with it.
Sure, but that's not what you originally asked. There's nothing wrong with state police being allowed to determine who is granted a concealed carry permit, but it's unconstitutional.

I originally asked what was wrong - you shared - and I was left unconvinced.

Unconvinced by multiple SCOTUS rulings?
Sure, that’s allowed.
I gather that the hair being split is that it's unconstitutional, but they don't see anything wrong with it.

What does "exposed" mean? Do you mean learn what it is and be asked if they would like to participate?
Imagine this same exact scenario played out with a religion you do not ascribe to from a politician from another party.
And - to be clear - Trump is not the "Republican candidate" - but the President Elect.
Trump wasn't actually part of any of this discussion or my post. I threw "democrat candidate" out as a place holder for any position.

And I think that we should always pray for our leaders whether we are Christian or Muslim or whatever.
But, of course, that is not the extent of what is happenning here.

I absolutely agree we should be praying for our leaders....at home and church and (privately) in public spaces.

Did they do the same thing for Biden in Oklahoma?

As a teacher, I would feel uncomfortable if our minister of education was a muslim and insisted every single student and school in our province would have to listen to him do a prayer of invocation in support of any politician.

You are presenting a false equivalency.

I would never be okay with any adult - besides me - asking if my kids wanted to pray for any political candidate.

I would - however - be totally okay with a teacher or minister praying for our elected leaders in some general way - like Walters did - and asking if my children wanted to participate.

I don't know why he did not do the same thing for Biden while he was in office - but maybe the last four years would have been better had we all been praying more for him.

You being uncomfortable around Muslims has nothing to do with me and my kids. Keep your prejudices to yourself.

IT doesn't seem like Oklahoma is doing much to keep that seperation of church and state overly strong. I have a feeling a lot of people are probably totally keen for it.

But of course, despite agreeing with the message, almost everything about this actions is wildly inappropriate in a school setting and seems to clearly go against the Constitution.

https://kfor.com/news/local/walters...ly-charged-opinions-praying-for-donald-trump/

I remember when the right wing was talking about "making sure there's only math and reading being taught in school and none of that other stuff". I'm sure they would have been steaming at this use of classtime too.
The only legal question is whether Walters possesses the legal authority to demand a video be played in all schools. Doesn't seem likely, but we shall see. He has oversight of the schools but not complete control.
