  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

'I am indigenous, and my family voted for Trump,' mom tells board

A Southern California school board found itself under fire this week after a high school teacher's inflammatory remarks about Latino voters who supported President-elect Donald Trump sparked outrage among parents and community members.

The teacher, identified as Maximiliano Perez, an AP World History teacher at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley, was placed on administrative leave after his profane and politically charged rant went viral on social media.

The controversy came to a head during a tense board meeting Tuesday at the Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD), where several students, parents and residents voiced their anger over Perez's comments. Some came to his defense, while others demanded his removal and reprimands for his behavior.

I read the article. It says the guy claims he knows "a lot" of Hispanics who wish they were white but they won't admit this.

So, it seems they have not admitted this to him, but *he* is claiming they wish they were white. So, may be what he means is a lot of Hispanic voters voted for Donald and he feels they have betrayed the Hispanic people, and therefore they can't want to be Hispanic if they voted for Donald.

Well . . . the article claims that 46% of voting Latinos and more than half of male Hispanic voters voted for Donald. So, I would say they don't buy what the guy is saying.

People can see through stupidity. I heard Donald saying things which Hispanics could have taken pretty badly; yet, many have voted for him. TV "Christian" speakers were spreading the idea that the Democrats were mixing illegal Hispanics into the voting population of Texas so Texas would become Democratic. And yet . . . of all things - - it could be Hispanics put Donald into the White House!!

So, we have had blabber-mouthing Republicans and blabber-mouthing Democrats, and ones who have put their vote where their mouth is. It seems no one's blabbermouthing decided who would win.

By the way - - Donald himself seemed to be making general statements about Hispanic people; but he has not been . . . removed by the Republican Party. But now, all of a sudden, an Hispanic guy runs his mouth and ones want to . . . do something with him. May be Jesus would say, "Let the one without sin cast the first stone."

I remember how Barack would use hot-headed people's statements and actions as "a teachable moment". One time, he was speaking and some guy, I think stood up and, blabbed his mouth maybe even calling the President a lier and a fake or something like that, and Barack said something like, "Isn't it good that we live in a country where people are free to say what they have to say!"

Now, I think of this > that was one guy, out of over three hundred million Americans, who said that to Barack. And Mr. Perez is one out of about 330 million. But ones are making quite a thing of him saying that. Ones seem to feel we are all weak and unstable enough to be taken down by him into joining him in his sort of ranting. But I suppose he can harvest only those who have let his sort of seed get planted in their hearts.

Our character has a lot to do with who we can believe. So, if really a lot of Americans can be taken down with such bellyaching . . . that is not necessarily the fault of the bellyacher. If "America" can be so easily divided into angry and frustrated sides . . . the ones splitting folks might not be their real problem if they are so easy to fool.

In Sunday School, of all things, I was told not to take sides if my parents were against each other. That helped me a lot. And now I see how both sides of the division and fighting and arguing and self-righteous criticizing . . . with unforgiveness . . . can be wrong. Our unforgiveness is wrong, no matter what side we take.

I think I have shared with some Hispanics who are geniuses > they know how to love. Their good example of humility and kindness does me more good than all that any party's candidate has promised me.
