  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Organizing Committee for the 2025 World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) Seoul General Assembly, which will be co-chaired by the Revs. Junghyun John Oh and Younghoon Lee, was launched on Friday. The thanksgiving service, held at the CCMM Building in Yeouido, Seoul, was led by Pastor Seok-soon Im, president of the Korea Evangelical Fellowship.

The Rev. Sang-sik Kim, president of Sungkyul University, offered the representative prayer, followed by a special hymn from the Sarang Solist Choir. Co-Chair the Rev. Younghoon Lee, senior pastor of Yoido Full Gospel Church, delivered a sermon titled “The Absolute Authority of the Bible” based on 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

“Forces aiming to undermine the absolute authority of God’s word are advancing through waves of liberalism, evolution and Marxism. Some Christian textual critics claim that there are words of God in the Bible, implying that some parts are not God’s word. However, the Bible is the word of God, and it is final. No additional story can be added,” Lee said.

I am trying to evaluate what the article is asserting...

Asians are very polite, and it is often difficult to discern what is
uniquely being asserted (with regard to Christian apologetics) by
this conference.

Those who hosted the conference, are not members of the WEA.
Although "liberalism" is stated as undermining biblical authority,
liberalism is not defined.
Although "evolution" is asserted as undermining biblical authority,
evolution is not defined. Many historical Christians, worldwide,
do not view certain concepts in biological evolution to undermine
the authority of the Bible.
It is true that those who claim that some of the Bible is not inspired by
God, is not a belief compatible with Christianity... still, the implying
that ALL TRUTH is revealed in the Bible is ALSO not a belief that
is compatible with most historical Christianity.
---------- ----------

It seems that the opinions of the WEA conference reflect Protestant
Fundamentalism, more than Protestant Evangelicalism.

As in America, a lot of Fundamentalists want to call themselves "Evangelicals",
although they do not hold to one of the core characteristics of Evangelicals --
the embrace of the intellect.

This leads me to ask "Who is speaking in this article".
And, are they Evangelicals, or anti-intellectual Fundamentalists?
