  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Another thread about restoring Catholicism to it's former place in the UK

This all stems from a tweet I saw from Rev Calvin Robinson, a continuing Anglican priest who's very pro-Catholic, and may be a hair away from joining Catholicism himself. Apparently after Welby resigned this past week people were calling for Robinson to be the new "ABC" (Archbishop of Canterbury). He tweeted

No one would want me as ABC. I would:

Put a priest in every parish.
Defund every DEI initiative.
Restore every cancelled monument/statue.
Remove every trans/pride flag.
Give all the ladyvicars a severance package.
Sack every gay priest/bishop.
Reunite with Rome.
Resign.

It was then that I realized the ABC is the key to fixing that whole mess, not the crown. But, the crown appoints the ABC. Now here's a question, could the crown appoint a Catholic as ABC? Perhaps a clandestine Catholic? Now, I realize that's more of a question for the Anglicans, but I wonder to what extent the Catholic Church would permit that sort of subterfuge if it meant reuniting the COE with Rome, or at least restoring Rome as the state Church and giving her stolen property back?

I dunno about anyone else but it's fun for me to think about.

Fun to think about. But the king is mostly a figurehead and will have to do what #10 Downing Street (Mr. Starmer, apparently not any sort of believer) decides. So don't hold your breath that it will be anything but what's going for woke in England right now.

The king apparently is quite taken with Orthodoxy. Of course he cannot become a Catholic. The law forbids it. If he did he would have to abdicate. But maybe he can actually become Orthodox without having to abdicate. One wonders if he could do that and then insist that he be allowed to pick an orthodox Orthodox bishop for the ABC. It would be a glorious commotion if he could pull it off.

There are more Catholics in church on any given Sunday in England than there are Anglicans at church. There are more Muslims at Friday prayers than Anglicans at church on Sunday. The Anglican communion is all but collapsed in England, being healthy in Africa and elsewhere that are more conservative. And what are the English Anglicans doing, squatting on Catholic built churches?

Considering , he isn't even part of the Anglican Communion, he doesn't recognize the Archbishop of Canterbury. He's part of the Anglican Catholic Church, so I don't know why people are saying he should be the next ABC?

He should come home to Rome, though ;)

He’s not a serious contender. I think he would be seriously shocked if he was appointed.

Apparently he doesn’t except papal supremacy or the Immaculate Conception, even if he said he wanted to join Rome.
