  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wonder if Obama would apply this to today. If not why not? He spoke this at the Democratic National Convention on Aug 8: 2008

For 18 long months, you have stood up, one by one, and said, "Enough," to the politics of the past. You understand that, in this election, the greatest risk we can take is to try the same, old politics with the same, old players and expect a different result. You have shown what history teaches us, that at defining moments like this one, the change we need doesn't come from Washington. Change comes to Washington. Change happens -- Change happens because the American people demand it, because they rise up and insist on new ideas and new leadership, a new politics for a new time. America, this is one of those moments.

Seems that's what happened right with Trump achieving a landslide ? Senate goes to the Republicans...looks like the Congress will too......electoral college landslide......high numbers with the popular vote......new ideas and a new politics for a new time......Trump claims we're heading for a new opportunity or a golden age. It most certainly is a new reset.

Wait a minute.... "new ideas and a new politics for a new time" with the same guy that you guys elected the last time?

Um....you sure about that?

-- A2SG, well, I guess electing a convicted felon is, technically, a "new idea"....

Wasn't there are great many things that took place with Trump before covid? Most of the population of the U.S. believe this was the case. They can remember what life was like of things prospering after his election. By the way the day after his election now the Dow jumped to record highs. People are spending money once again.

So you take that really seriously don't you. Seems evident to me with Trump winning the POPULAR VOTE most Americans don't. Maybe you should have a look at this article which might help you gain perspective.

I guess I'm just unclear on why going back to the way things were 8 years ago is, somehow, a new idea or new politics "for a new time." Sounds like going back to me.

But, if that's what you want, then why not just say so? On the other hand, if you actually do want "new ideas and a new politics for a new time," why go for the same guy who lost the last time he ran, and who hadn't gotten a majority of Americans to vote for him previously?

I'm more interested in the verdict of the jury: 12 individuals who actually saw the evidence as well as Trump's legal defense, and unanimously decided he was guilty of falsifying business documents 34 times.

The uninformed opinions of a bunch of random people, none of whom saw the actual evidence, doesn't hold much sway with me.

-- A2SG, I'm funny that way.....

Because he never got to fully demonstrate what his policies would do. Prosperity was coming back to the nation before covid hit. The American people (most of them) believe this as well.

Because the people NOW have a contrast. Life without Trump's policies thus the last 4 years where things were a mess. Now you can see with him sweeping ALL the swing states his way and winning the popular vote . It seems they're convinced now putting America first is the best way to go.

No you should read through all the reasons the felony charges shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's all in the article.

You know what the charges were now I would highly encourage you to read the article . You might discover all you've been doing is living in an echo chamber. I think most Americans could see through the charges made against him were highly questionable.

So, it isn't "new ideas and a new politics for a new time," it's old ones that you prefer, instead of new ones.

If that's what you actually want, why not say that, instead of saying you want "new ideas and a new politics for a new time"?

Why should I take the opinions of some random people who didn't view the evidence from the prosecution or Trump's defense over 12 people who did?

If it's all the same to you, I'll take the jury's view over some random person who presents their opinion on the internet.

-- A2SG, after all, literally anyone can do that....only certain people, chosen by both the prosecution and Trump's defense team, were allowed on the jury.....
