  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello all!

Hopefully I can word this question correctly. I want to dive deeper into Jesus' teachings, really study His words. I'm trying to decide which gospel to start with, or what order to read them in. What would you suggest?

Thank you!

It doesn't matter where you start, but it is easier to keep on track by just reading them in order.

Hello @Morghaine, I like @Hoping2's idea :)

If you're looking for something more specific, perhaps the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) would be a good place to start? There are several excellent commentaries that have been written about that part of Matthew alone, just FYI, so picking up one of those (or finding one online) could enhance your study of The Beatitudes/Sermon on the Mount.

You could also pick up a chronological harmony of the Gospels that puts all of His life and teachings from the four Gospel accounts together in chronological order (and you could get even more specific by choosing a certain part of His life to focus on, like His birth or His Passion Week, for instance).

Finally, it would also be interesting to take a look at everything that is written ~about~ the Lord Jesus in the OT, and then to see how the OT prophesies about Him played out/were fulfilled in the NT/Gospels.

God bless you!!

Isaiah 53
5 He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
6 All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
1 Peter 2
24 He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
25 For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.
