It was a cultural thing. In Greece, hair were considered to be the seat of the female fertility. The longer, the more fertile.

So, if a man had long hair, it was "naturally" perceived as shameful for him - having female fertility.

In today's culture, its still perceived as feminine, you may be even mistaken for a woman, from the back or sides. But I doubt most of today's churches would have a problem with it.

Dont worry about it only paul thinks this, it is a cultural thing. different times today however I know from scripture that men should not look like women and women like men. if you are masculine or a worker not dealing with dangerous equipment, no problem.

I checked all scripture on this.

Of the 28 women named in the New Testament, Paul and his disciple Luke name 23 of them. If not for Paul and Luke, we would only know of Mary, Mary, Mary, Martha, and Salome. Paul and Luke speak frequently about the importance of women in Paul's ministry, particularly significant since in that time and place he need not mention the involvement of women at all. Paul entrusted his most significant letter to a woman...and a woman deacon at that. He said that two other women "fought beside me" in the Gospel.

It would be another 2000 years before we'd find another man with as high an opinion of women as Paul.

Hey Harley,

I just had a friend last week with this question about hair length, and about head coverings, and men and women's roles in Church and the whole banana. This study I believe would be well worth your effort to read, as it goes far and wide into even why God created man and woman and made them so different and how *everything* about them testifies to spiritual realities.

I encourage anybody curious to check this out and along with Harley provide your critical analysis.

Hey man, if you feel secure who am I? All I know is that when I look at photos of my long hair years, *I* certainly cringe because effeminate is exactly what I look to me, even desiring to seem "sensual" and definitely not in the godly sense!

I really do encourage you to check out the article. It gives great insight into why our natural inclinations as men and women are not merely a matter of contemporary mores and evolving traditions.

We are given the ability to grow meters long nails. However... we do not do that, for all practical reasons.

Heck, I dunno. Except I think the Levites wore their hair long for some reason, perhaps being set aside as the priestly clan.

As for men's nipples, utterly clueless, except maybe to display His sense of humor. I remember my babies being so disappointed when I wasn't paying attention and they tried to get something out of them, LOL!

1 Corinthians 11
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Paul himself is speaking for himself here. He does that at times.

1 Cor 11
14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

And when he asks, “doesn't nature teach you?” I reply “the natural man is the enemy of God.”

This is what God sees;
Hebrews 4
12 For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 No creature is hidden from him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give an account.

Romans 14
5 One man esteems one day above another: another esteems every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

James 1
6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

The scripture is about faith, not appearance

Romans 14
Have you faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he that condemns not himself in that thing which he allows.

Grow it, Shave it, do as you will.
Women do not lose their salvation when undergoing cancer treatments.

God is in the business of saving souls, not bodies. We will shed this thing and get a spiritual body.
Settle it for yourself.

People can come down on this however they please. Who cares? What is the motive?
I have longer hair at times because I don't bother to cut it. I couldn't care any less what some think. I have short hair, which I prefer because I hate it in my eyes. Again, Don't care. You won't please them all and this issue is immaterial. Life is between you and God.

Probably. But my point is that the fact something is constantly growing does not tell us its supposed to be long.

For the building of the church as the one new man Paul broke down the
oppressive and divisive social stratification between male and female for the unity the church requires.

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
