  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1K 3:

19 This woman’s son died in the night, because she lay on him.
PubMed:

Overlaying, the accidental death by smothering caused by a larger individual sleeping on top of an infant, is a cause of death that has been documented for centuries. The hazard of death has been reported to be greater in infants less than 5 months of age but may occur in children up to the age of 2 years. When an adult or older child rolls on top of an infant, mechanical asphyxia results. The face may be pressed into the mattress or into the body of the sleeping adult or older child.
Tragically, it does happen even in our modern days.

I agree. Here is another good article, targeting the general public, on this subject, sometimes called co-sleeping.

I recall taking a nap with my (then) young son laying on my chest in a recliner. The article points out that it increases risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) by 70%. Yikes!

Napping with them is one thing. But sleeping through the night in bed where you move and roll around, there's too much of a risk of injury or suffocation. Maybe the baby is suffocated just long enough to cause brain damage.

Yes, but the article mentioned that a doctor, that is now active in trying to save babies, himself had taken a nap with his baby on a couch, only to find it dead when he woke up. Very sad to hear.

A couch is worse than a bed because the baby can get pinned in between the parent and the back of the couch. Definitely a tragically hard lesson to learn.
