  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In a recent interview with Brian Tyler Cohen, [Mark] Cuban explained why he believes some of Silicon Valley's wealthiest players are backing Trump – they think they can control him.

"I think they believe they can manipulate him," Cuban said during the interview. "I think they understand that he's so transactional and so devoid of core values that anything that they want, they can manipulate him to get."

Heavily leveraged billionaires who ascend to the presidency without putting all their assets in blind trusts are much, much, much more likely to be manipulated by big money.

Please tell me why a person whom has already fully established his wealth and business assets in the multi-billions is more susceptible to manipulation by other billionaires than someone else who relies upon her government positions over the course of her career to be a multi-millionaire?

Billionaires manipulate both the right and the left, so there is nothing new under the sun. If a billionaire bribed Kamala, even she would be manipulated. So Trump and Kamala are equally at risk of being swayed by billionaires. If we want to be protected from billionaires, we need bipartisan legislation that prevents lobbying any politician from massive corporations.

The key word is "leveraged." Mortgaged to the hilt presiding over a fake fortune.

A public servant married to.a prosperous law firm partner does not have to impress anyone. Money is not her primary goal.

In addition, candidate D has filed years of taxes. Candidate R refuses, although some records came out in his $500 million tax fraud trial.

Do you really really really believe that Kamala Harris doesn't have to impress anyone and that she is not going to have to do what the millionaire donors of her campaign wants her to do?

And what says "leader" better than "we know we are able to influence him".
How was Donald Trump manipulated by the billionaires?

I just can't think of a time millionaires stated something like this so brazenly about a president.

Could it be because Mark Cuban and other left wing billionaires don't want to acknowledge that they themselves are manipulating and influencing Democratic Party politicians?

Ahh, this makes me so glad to be voting 3rd party for a centrist candidate. No big ties to large companies. :)

Someone telling me the reason to not vote 3rd party in T-5... 4... 3... 2... 1... 0
Because you will be throwing away your vote. You can keep pushing that third party vote, but it's a fool's errand in the current U.S. political system. Until we have ranked-choice voting we are stuck with 2 major parties.

...that's true in a general sense for any politician accepting large sums of money from x person or interest group. However, as Cuban pointed out, Trump operates on a purely transactional basis, making him especially easily to manipulate:

He clarified that Trump is a prime candidate for manipulation because of his erratic behavior and eagerness to strike deals with anyone who presents him with something of value. Cuban called this approach "the Roy Cohn school of management," referencing Trump's former mentor who was known for ruthless, win-at-all-costs tactics.

"Those are the kind of guys you want to negotiate against because you can be in a negotiation for any type of business or any type of circumstances and just hit them with something that’s going to * [tick] them off or freak them out and you have the edge," Cuban added.

I am gonna throw my vote away, cos I can not stand either of the two candidates. At least Kamala has no charges and did not incite January 6th, but she still does not align with my beliefs.

We need ranked-choice voting in 2028 or something. Anything to get us back to more moderate politics of yesteryear. Trust me, I am almost 25 and have one little gray hair in my bangs since early this year. Old-school is cool, and we need some old-school 1970s style Republicans or 1970s style Democrats in our country. Closest person to the old style of moderate politics in 2024 is my 3rd party candidate.

SCOTUS told us all that “$=speech”, that’s our normal, now.
Someone is using their money to make more money by influencing the government/leaders?

This has been our “system” since Citizens United was decided in 2010.

It invited the rich to influence the government, treating our nation like a resource to be exploited like an ore bearing mountain.

Surely this isn’t news.

I agree with you. Trump is quite easy to manipulate, as billionaires want to gain more money. It seems that the richer someone is, the more likely he/she wants more money. Even $1 trillion would not satisfy anyone, cos then that person would want $2 trillion and so on. That is why I want someone who is not a billionaire to run our country. Imagine if Trump struck a deal with a Russian gas magnate, or Arab oil magnate. That would be bad for our national security.

CNBC even says that billionaires are unhappy people:

Because your chosen 3rd party candidate isn't even on your ballot. (see Rep Tiffany's freak-out last week about an absentee ballot.)
