Hi I’m a 51 year old woman who’s new on here. I don’t go to a church yet but I was brought up going to the Church of Scotland. I now find that church has become too liberal and lost it’s way years ago so I stopped going . I also lost my faith for many years but came back. I’m single.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm also female , living in Scotland - my husband was not a Churchgoer but I always have been and find now that I really appreciate the companionship from the Community to which I belong is a great comfort to me.

Churches becoming too liberal (not following God’s commands) a common criticism today. Maybe we’ll see a Revival & the pendulum swing back. I think a lot of these liberal churches are leaving people broken or empty. Don’t give up. I gave up too for a time on churches, but there’s God-fearing churches out there still if you’re willing to look. Meanwhile lot of (most? all?) genuine people here on CF who take it serious, don’t always agree but would never doubt their genuineness.
