  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I'd like to know if there is a context that can be given for those verses. Here is what it says.

16 But children of adulterers will not come to maturity,
and the offspring of an unlawful union will perish.
17 Even if they live long they will be held of no account,
and finally their old age will be without honor.
18 I f they die young, they will have no hope
and no consolation in the day of decision.
19 For the end of an unrighteous generation is grievous.

I'm struggling with this because it looks like it's putting unnecessary punishment on the children of a union that was not a valid union. I already feel like God is ignoring my pain because of the invalidity of my parents' marriage, and this passage is making me feel weird. There must be a better context for this.

It was written in the Old Testament, when under the Old Covenant. Things were harsh back then, as the glory of God was present only in the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies.

Justification was based on strict adherence to the law of the Old Covenant. God is not obligated to save anyone. He offered Himself to us out of love, not obligation. God was not going to reward disobedience. He has mercy on whom He has mercy and whom He wills he hardens. That is was the Old Covenant. Salvation was of the Jews.

Jesus even said this to the Samaritan woman at the well, and he called the Samaritan woman a dog that asked for healing for her daughter. She received healing because she showed humility.

That is how it is for us. We have no right be arrogant and demand God save us and take us to heaven, but in the New Covenant is open to all people regardless of status, family or race

He says if we humble ourselves, deny ourselves and take up our cross to follow Him, we will be saved. It does not matter who we are, His offer is open.

Psalm 44 (Douay Rheims) says forget your people and your father’s house, since He is your Lord, bow to Him.
When we deny ourselves, we take our eyes off of ourselves and place them on Him to follow Him. We no longer live to our flesh, but as Paul says I now live for my Lord who loved me and gave Himself for me. That is the New Covenant.

Satan wants you to look at yourself. If we listen to him, we either think we can never be good enough, or we are so good that we do not need to repent. That is for other people. Wrong
The just are poor in Spirit and do not think of who we are or what we were. We rely on the Lord that loved us and gave himself for us.

Everyone has to deny themselves to follow Jesus. There is no Jew nor Greek, bond nor free, male nor female, we are all one in the body of Christ. We are all one, but we are not all the same. We are many members but one body
We are in the Body by denying ourselves. God is no respecter of persons

Don’t listen to Satan and look at yourself and where you came from. Look at the Lord and where you are going and what He has in store if you follow Him

He loved you enough to die for you, do you love Him enough to accept that gift no matter who you are ? I don’t want to sound cruel or unsympathetic, but it would not be a good idea to go before Him and say, yeah, I know you died for me, but I am not good enough, thanks anyway
Also bad to say Jesus you died for me, but I am good the way I am, where is that heaven yall talkin bout?

Deny yourself, cause it’s not going to be yourself that saves you, it is Jesus. If that is difficult to understand, ask Our Blessed mother for help. She is waiting to hold you like a daughter and tell you all about her Son.

That kind of love was not available in the Old Covenant. That is why we call it the Gospel. It is good news

@boughtwithaprice explained it well. We live under the new Law of Christ (Love God, and love your neighbor), so the Old Testament way of life is no longer valid in 2024, or after ~33 AD.

If you’re having bad feelings, it’s not from God.

Remember, God loves you.
