  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just read a "small pocket-size New Testament that is a reprint of the original Confraternity edition published in 1941". It was in Old English. It wasn't easy to read, but I made it through.
I had one of those too, a NT issued to Catholic soldiers in WWII. It eventually fell apart because I took it everywhere. I have a Confraternity reprint now, same translation, same pocket size, not military issue but same idea.

Is the NRSV-CE easy to read?
Sort of. Way better than a Douay. I don't prefer it because it went inclusive language and is not literal in those places where it tries to earn inclusivity points. I prefer the older RSV without the 'n'or the ESV in their Catholic editions. My goal is not to be 'non-inclusive' but to be more literal.

Yeah it's straight forward. Almost like the NLT or NIV in protestant circles. I think it's the go-to translation for Catholic bible studies a lot of the time.

Good because I really liked my NIV when I was Lutheran and Non Denom.

Well, I ordered another Bible. It’s a fake leather NRSV Catholic Edition. It has Anglicized text. Will that be difficult for an American like me to read?
Depends how much reading you do.

Yup. Mine from sixth grade is well worn too. It introduced my great love for sacred scripture.
