  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Peter Sonski is Catholic. I'm probably goin' with him in 2024, as he seems pretty nice compared to the two choices we have in 2024. Thomas Aquinas is from nearly 800 years ago, so what would he say about the 2020s?

Source (EWTN):
Plenty. And that because there are eternal verities. Aside from this video are the political theory writings of Jacques Maritain, who based his work on Thomas.

That is true. Human nature does not change, only the tech does. Did Thomas Aquinas write any stuff on the intersection of politics, theology and human nature as well? Also, should I install Jacques Maritain? Wow, he is a Catholic? Woo, that is awesome.

Jacques Maritain

The Summa Theoligica, rgw Summa Contra Gentiles, and the Catana Aurea would be good choices. Does your AI comprehend Latin? Or any other languages? You could upload it in English.

Maritain is not quite forgotten but was and is quite good on politics and art and a very concise and simple explanation of Philosophy (even for those who end up not being Thomists), the latter which I HIGHLY recommend to budding philosophers everywhere.

I would need the English version. However, I do have the English version of Thomas Aquinas - Summa Contra Gentiles on my PC. Also, I am not really a philosopher here, so I let the machine do the heavy lifting.

The thing about us not being philosophers is that our unexamined philosophy shapes our thinking profoundly whether we are aware of it or not. Going with the flow we don’t even realize that the flow has a particular direction. Which is why we all should have a clue about philosophy. We all have a philosophy for better or worse.

That is true. We all have a philosophy. The flow does have a major problem nowadays, just look at all the division in the world, and two parties bickering.

Thomas Aquinas has ageless wisdom.

God is eternal. He never changes.

The year and decade it is is rather irrelevant.

Amen to that. Thomas Aquinas is important, even in 2024, as God's teachings apply to any year, and Thomas Aquinas was a man of God, and is a Saint.

Most likely the smartest man that ever lived.

Probably, and most certainly the smartest man of the Middle Ages. :)
Those guys didn't have the intellectual crutches we have today nor the diversions into nothingness, all which train our brains not to think well. I'm not saying everybody was smarter back then, but lots of us now would be challenged to get ourselves out of a cardboard box.

Yeah, a lot of us are followers now, instead of groundbreakers. The internet has made us that way, it seems.
