  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

BARROW COUNTY, Ga. - Multiple people were injured Wednesday morning during a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder in Barrow County, according to Barrow County Sheriff Judd Smith. One person has also been taken into custody.
The Barrow County Sheriff's Office told FOX 5 Atlanta that multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency responders responded to reports of an active shooter around 10:30 a.m.
FOX 5 Atlanta also received multiple phone calls and messages about the shooting.
SkyFOX 5 flew over the scene and observed multiple police cars and ambulances at the school. SkyFOX 5 also observed students and staff on the football field of the school and saw at least two people being loaded into a medical helicopter and ambulance.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., the school told FOX News that the school had been cleared and students were being released to their families. The school also said that buses would take home any students who did not have transportation.
Winder-Barrow High School was briefly placed on hard lockdown, but there was no threat to the students at that high school.
The FBI and Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) have confirmed they responded to the shooting and will be involved in the investigation.
No other information was released about the victims or the person placed under arrest. The conditions of the victims is unknown at this point.
Gov. Brian Kemp issued a statement on X:
According to U.S. News & World Report, there are approximately 1,900 students enrolled at the school. It is one of two high schools in the Barrow County Public Schools district.
The school is located about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.

I heard a little bit ago they were releasing kids to their parents to go home for the day..

I'm glad the situation is in hand. My prayers are with everyone involved, whether injured students or teachers or just scared children and parents and community... May God be with all of them in their hour of need.

Very sad situation.

At least 4 killed, approximately 30 injured in school shooting, sources say

At least four people are believed to have been killed and approximately 30 more were injured in a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, according to law enforcement sources in the state. It’s unclear how many of the injuries are from gunshot wounds.

The information is preliminary and is subject to change. A suspect is in custody who is of student age, but it’s unclear whether they attend the school, according to the sources.

Not before, among other things, people stop worshipping guns.
Agreed. Gun culture makes me sick.

I have no issue with those using guns for hunting or protection LEGALLY.

It's the ones who obtain them illegally and use them to harm others.

The problem is that the people who use them illegally usually obtain them illegally and as many guns as there are out there people are crazy if they think gun control would do a whole heck of a lot MAYBE in say 20 years.

I really don't have an opinion on gun control. I'm no expert by any means.

People always say that gun control would help, yet most of the people who do things like this do not care about the laws.

Not anytime soon now that we’re at the stage of calling school shootings worth it so long as gun laws remain the same.
People who do things like this do NOT care about the laws anyway.

Those who break the law don’t care about the law, gosh, this whole experiment of having laws is a failure! Best do away with the rest of them.

As I have said before people who can be trusted with guns need very few laws people who cannot do not care and quite frankly the cat is out of the bag anyway to have any impact in the next generation.

Still wrong.

Again, I don't know what the solution is.

Makes me sick.

Sickening :(
that is why gun control is such a big thing at tims like this, yet gun control would have very little impact in the next several years as the cat is out of the bag.

Below is a post I made over a year ago listing gun control measues I would like to see. Once all of the information is known about this shooting and the perpetrator, I'm certain we will find that one or more of the proposals on that list could have prevented today's shooting.

As for what else I would like to see at the federal level in addition to a ban on "assault style" weapons and high capacity magazines:

  • Universal background checks on all gun purchases and transfers, including private transfers and sales at gun shows;
  • Require a 10 day waiting period on all gun purchases;
  • Require registration and a license for each gun that a person owns;
  • Have a minimum age limit of 21 to purchase a handgun and require a hunting license for purchases of rifles or shotguns by adults under 21 who are not in the military or law enforcement; and
  • Require training and a proficiency test for the type of gun being purchased.

None of the above would take away a person's right to keep and bear arms and they will still have the ability to purchase guns for hunting, target shooting, and protection.
