  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Wolverines will not have an Ultimate Frisbee team because of pro Palestinian student government

They're taking over the University of Michigan

My Christian acquaintance Joe is into Ultimate Frisbee. I should ask him if he has heard this news, though he is a busy man that co-runs a job coaching company and a life-skills company.

Quote from the article: "But last spring, pro-Palestinian activists, running under the Shut It Down party, won control over the student government. They immediately moved to withhold funding for all activities, until the university committed to divest from companies that profit from Israel’s war in Gaza."

Seems that people are putting politics over recreation. One should allow Ultimate Frisbee or any other recreational activity to happen, and set politics aside to enjoy life. That is the issue of being far-left or far-right. People get so uptight and no longer want to just go with the flow anymore.

And people call us conspiracy theorists when we say our culture is being eroded by those infiltrating our culture. People who come here illegally and want to change America to fit their own culture. And yet, we see it happening everywhere.

Yep, it is happening almost everywhere brother. That is why I have shifted from being more left-wing in the late 2010s to being more centrist, maybe even slightly conservative (but not MAGA level) since 2023 or so. The left have gone off the deep end. The same could be said for the far-right as well, but the far-left is just as bad, if not even potentially 2x worse.

Edited to say: Almost everywhere, as some countries are not eroded as much.

Perhaps the students have learned a lesson about voter apathy.

“In the March election, in which less than 20 percent of students turned out to vote, Shut It Down won the presidency and vice presidency, and secured 22 of 45 seats in the assembly.”

I do agree with you on there. Everyone should vote, whether it is for something, against something, or for something in-between. Voter apathy is a real issue.

I mean if the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party wins, you expect a certain outcome.

Likewise for the Shut it Down Party.
There is a whole Reddit devoted to this party. I do not have any Reddit account, but it is fun to peruse. Some people vote for the party that they think supports them, only to get back stabbed. These folks should either blame themselves, or think before they vote.

lol, what are you talking about? Nothing in the article had anything to do with illegals. Are you unable to comprehend the possibility that Americans and others here legally would vote this way?

These folks did exactly what congressional Republicans do: they ran on a platform of obstructionism, won enough seats to enact their policy, and then executed it. If you want to call that “unAmerican,” so be it. But I don’t imagine you’ll take that position next time the Freedom Caucus (with less electoral power than this crew) tries the exact same thing.

And it wasn't exactly a hidden agenda:

'When campaigning for student government, the Shut It Down party did not keep its intentions a secret. Its platform “ran with one single point: to halt the operations of the University of Michigan Central Student Government,” Alifa Chowdhury, the president of the party, wrote in a statement to The Times.'

They certainly learned the "shut it down" tactic from the GOP Congress.
