  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

More than one-tenth of Protestants cited a New Testament story when asked about their favorite Old Testament passage, according to the results of a new study.

Lifeway Research released a report last week titled “Protestant Churchgoer Views on Bible Stories” based on responses collected from 1,008 American Protestant churchgoers in September 2023. The survey asked respondents “Of all the stories found in the Old Testament of the Bible, which one is your favorite?”

A plurality of those surveyed (13%) identified the book of Exodus and its focus on Moses as their favorite part of the Old Testament. The story of Noah and the Ark was the second most popular, with 11% of Protestant churchgoers listing it as their favorite part of the Old Testament.

(I have been saying for a long time, that North American Christians
are becoming biblically illiterate.

One of the big problems with this, is that, if they put out "logical"
arguments to explain or defend the faith, the DEFINITIONS they use
may not be the definitions that the Bible uses.

When we do not start with biblical definitions (of, for example,
faith, or grace, or marriage, or sin, or salvation, or law...) then
WHATEVER argument we construct, is LOGICALLY UNSOUND.

Biblical illiteracy, is a disaster, for North American Christianity.)

Well, if you read the article it states Protestant "churchgoers" so it's not all that surprising to me. Many rely only on whatever their pastor is giving them every Sunday and that's it. One or two verses surrounded by a personal sermon that has nothing to do with the Word of God. And many probably haven't even read the bible in it's entirety -Now that would be a more interesting poll- across all denominations.
