  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For the younger "electronic screen" generations, this may seem like a
strange thing -- the right to NOT be always available to the messages
from employers.

Older generations often value the freedom of being "offline", and
setting their own schedule and activities, outside of work time.

This should definitely be the norm worldwide. I've never had a job that paid me enough or treated me well enough to make answering their communications outside of normal work hours even slightly worth my time. If you want me to be "on call" for you, compensate me accordingly. Otherwise, you are intruding upon my personal time, and that is not your right to do. "At-will" employment cuts both ways, y'know.

IF a company expects a worker to answer communications, outside of work hours, then this
should be in the initial work contract.

For years, most businesses worked without having contact with workers,
outside of work hours.

There is NO reason for managers to think that they MUST have immediate contact
with workers, for most businesses to run.
