In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump Doubles Down on Medal of Honor Dig Despite Backlash From Vets

The former president is standing by his take that the Presidential Medal of Freedom is better because it doesn't involve sacrifice

Donald Trump doubled down on his comments about how the Presidential Medal of Freedom is superior to the military Medal of Honor because the former involves no sacrifice.

“The Presidential Medal of Freedom, to my knowledge, I don’t think anybody suffered,” Trump said in an interview after his rally on Saturday, attempting to clarify comments made on Thursday. “People [who] get the Congressional Medal of Honor, which I’ve given to many, are often horribly wounded or dead. They’re often dead, they get it posthumously. And when you get the Congressional Medal of Honor, I always consider that to be the ultimate — but it is a painful thing to get it.”

He added, “When you get the Presidential Medal of Freedom, it’s usually for other things, like you’ve achieved great success in sports, or you’ve achieved great success someplace else … I don’t think anybody suffered, other than they’ve, you know, they worked hard, and they’ve done great things.”

Trump made his first round of controversial comments on the subject on Thursday at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, at an event on fighting antisemitism. Trump was speaking about billionaire Miriam Adelson, the widow of major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Trump said the civilian award is “actually much better because everyone [who] gets the Congressional Medal of Honor, they’re soldiers. They’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead.” Speaking about Miriam Adelson, Trump said: “She gets it, and she’s a healthy, beautiful woman, and they’re rated equal, but she got the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the largest veterans advocacy group in the U.S., criticized the statement on Friday. VFW National Commander Al Lipphardt said: “These asinine comments not only diminish the significance of our nation’s highest award for valor, but also crassly characterized the sacrifices of those who have risked their lives above and beyond the call of duty.”

Progressive veterans group Common Defense also bashed the comments, posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday: “Absolutely shameful for Trump to equate the Medal of Honor, our military’s highest recognition for valor, courage, bravery, and sacrifice to the award he gave out to his mega donor. He is unfit to lead our nation and our military.”

Trump’s comments come as his running mate J.D. Vance has been focused on attacking Kamala Harris’ vice presidential pick Tim Walz, who served for two decades in the Army National Guard, for supposedly “stealing valor.” The claim is dubious, to say the least.

This is not the first time Trump has angered veterans. In 2020, he allegedly called American soldiers who died in war “losers” and “suckers,” something he has denied.

Retired Gen. John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff who confirmed he disparaged dead soldiers, on Monday rejected Trump’s claim that the Presidential Medal of Freedom is “much better” than the Medal of Honor. “Not even close,” he told CNN.

Trump has to be making these horrific statements without his advisors. He didn't have anything prepared to counter the first disrespectful comments?
To think the one given by him is better than the Medal of Honor is asinine, but to say it in public a few months from the election is politically suicidal. But this is Trump and his supporters.

That's because he is quite literally an idiot, and has never had to attain anything in his life ever by having to "suffer" for it, or even work very hard at it, and it is showing in all the things he is saying, and has said in the past previously right now.

I fully believe that he did call soldiers who had died "suckers" and "losers", etc, as he immediately fired, and apparently silenced, the person who heard him say it, so that we will never know the real truth about it.

But if you look at all the other "stupid" that has ever came out of his mouth...?

Anyway, I fully believe he said it, etc.

Anyone not acquainted with suffering, or ever having to suffer for anything, is 100% completely unfit to lead our country.

But the problem is, many of those people "up there" have not had to ever, so...?

So that's why we have a nation led by a bunch of idiots that know nothing about anything "real", etc.

None of them have ever had to "earn it", etc.

Because the way you "earn it", is by having to suffer for it. And that's something that is completely foreign to almost all of them, etc.

And it "shows", and it shows "bigtime" with them, etc.

I fear for this country.

God Bless.

The only reason people are wanting to stay and be so very, very loyal to this "moron", is just only because he's not a politician.

But this "person" was also born into wealth, is a complete "idiot", and has never had to suffer or work hard for anything in his life.

So as much as some of you might like to think he's so very much more "like you" (or me), just because he's not a politician, he's just "not", ok. And is so very, very far removed from any of that, just as much as any politician is, ok. So you are deluding yourself if you think that about him, ok. He knows nothing of any of the kinds of things that you or I know about, and it "shows", ok.

So please stop defending the man every time he gets himself into trouble with his "stupid mouth" and "stupid stupidity", ok. And please stop defending him like he's some sort of god, or some kind of promised Messiah, or is Jesus Christ himself, ok. It's sickening to me. If the man gets himself into trouble, or digs a very deep hole for himself, then let him get out of it himself, ok.

God Bless.

Bottom line is, and this is what Donald Trump really thinks in his own mind, people who suffer, or that have had to suffer, or that are currently suffering, etc, are weak, and pathetic, and are losers, and are stupid in his eyes/mind, because he has never had to, and despises all of that, and so considers all of that, and all of those people "weak", and this is what he really and truly and actually thinks in his own mind.

And he's a ego maniac because of this also, because he's never ever had to have been "humbled" by anything ever, etc.

You really want to defend this man/person like he's Jesus Christ?

Way I see it, if he digs himself a hole, he should have to get out of it himself, and maybe experience some "personal growth" in the process of having to get himself out of it himself maybe.

But then again, this is Donald Trump that we are talking about here, so probably "not" actually.

God Bless.

He's still going to cry "election fraud" and try to rally people to overthrow the government instead of taking the blame for his own political suicide when he loses. Classic narcissist behavior.

And I also don't know if his ego can handle losing to a woman either, etc.

But now Kamala Harris is also a complete idiot also, but in a whole different way than Donald Trump, etc.

She's going to have to constantly be led by other people, and is always going to need to be told what to do and what to say always, and she'll still mess it up sometimes, etc.

And that is almost a complete juxtaposition to Donald Trump, who doesn't listen to anybody, and thinks in his own deluded mind that no one else can ever tell him anything or ever impart any kind of knowledge to him that he doesn't already know "all about" already, etc.

We need someone who can lead, but is also not so arrogant that they think that no one else has anything valuable to say, or can't ever help them, or can't ever tell them or impart to them some kind of knowledge that they don't already know, etc.

But Kamala Harris is probably still the safest bet, even if she always has to have people leading her, or holding her hand, etc, because we will be actually being led by people a lot smarter than her, or who knows things that are maybe beyond her ability to comprehend or know, etc.

It won't ever be that way with Trump, etc.

And that's not a strength, but is a personal weakness of Donald Trump's, etc.

I'd much rather have someone who is willing to listen to advice from other people wiser than them before they just push the big red button, etc, even if they have to quite literally be led around by the hand a lot, etc.

God Bless.

Kamala Harris is always laughing, and joking about everything, which shows her immaturity, etc.

But to her I'd like to say, "This isn't any kind of joke little girl. You're maybe about to become the leader of the most powerful nation in the world, and that isn't a "joke", ok. I know you probably never expected this to happen, but now you have to live up to the responsibility, ok. So you better learn, and start learning very, very fast, or very, very quickly, because that's something that your opponent, will just never ever do, ok. And that's where you can have an advantage over him, ok."

God Bless.

Kamala Harris still has a bit of an ego problem also, but it's just not the same as Donald Trump.

I've already mentioned her laughing and joking and lack of being able to be serious a lot. And when anyone wants her to be more serious in an interview or something like that, she seems to get upset about it, and put on the defensive about it a lot of the time. Her whole demeanor and body language changes because of it, like she really, really doesn't want to be serious, and doesn't like it very much.

Well, that's going to need to change if she wants to become our next president, and I'd like to tell her that also. It is a serious position, with a serious responsibility, that she needs to take a lot more seriously, etc.

Other leaders are probably not going to like her very much if she acts like she does in some of her interviews, etc, because they expect another leader to not be like that, and so it will probably just annoy them, and she needs to take both it and that, a lot more seriously a lot, etc.

God Bless.
