  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I very much doubt Putin thought his guys would be taking Ukraine in a week. He doesn't care about minimal loss of life, his track record is wars of attrition, bombing and seiging.

They took Crimea rather quickly, and I think they may have thought a similar scenario would unfold. Between Feb 22 - 27, 2014 Russia began moving troops to the border of Crimea, and began to occupy on and after Feb 27. Less than three weeks later Russia annexed Crimea, (03/18) and Ukraine ordered its troops out on March 24.

It obviously did not go down like that in 2022.

I take anyone with tanks guns and bombs as a serious threat. Even if their weaponry is old, poorly maintained and their people are poorly trained especially if they have so many people they don't care if their losses are massive. Put in doesn't care about the lives of his soldiers

I believe the issue with the British weaponry is that they require extensive training to operate which the Ukranians have not had. Thus it follows that the British are operating the weapons systems, hence the response of Russia.

That was back when Putin figured that Russia would be able to defeat Ukraine.

If he can't even do that, do you really think he will want to take on NATO? A Russian attack on Britain would bring all of NATO into the conflict.

I notice they can't even hold their own territory. For the first time since WWII Russian territory is held by an enemy force. Your rating has Russia at #2, and they can't even defend themselves against #18?

Crimea is not ethnically Ukrainian. For some reason, back in (I think) the 1950s, Krushchev attached Crimea to Ukraine. Which might have had some relevance to the Ukrainian response.

An attack on NATO by Russia would invoke an Article 5 intervention by all its members. So no, not going to happen.

It is Ukraine that is sending troops into Russia, not Britain. It is the childish assumption that Russia can trample with impunity on the rights of other nations and expect no retaliation that is being challenged here.
