  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

“She wants to take away your guns.”

— Former President Donald J. Trump

False.

“They take the strategic national reserves. They’re virtually empty now. We have never had it this low.”

— Former President Donald J. Trump

This is exaggerated.

President Biden has indeed tapped the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to try to mitigate gasoline price increases, drawing it down by about 40 percent from when he took office, and it is currently at the lowest level since the 1980s. But it still has 375 million barrels in it now, which is not “virtually empty” nor is it at the lowest level ever.

“The vast majority of the country does support me.”

— Former President Donald J. Trump

False.

4% is not the majority of the country.

“They’re going to destroy Social Security.”

— Former President Donald J. Trump

False.

“Everybody is going to be forced to buy an electric car.”

— Former President Donald J. Trump

False.

— Former President Donald J. Trump

False.

“Nobody was killed on Jan. 6.”

— Former President Donald J. Trump

False.

At least 7 people died in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, including a Trump supporter who was fatally shot by a Capitol Police officer.

That is some of it.

If Trump said that we have blue skies today, it would not surprise me at all if The New York Times published a fact check article on that. :)

Most politicians spin facts a bit. Lie some But Trump is flagrant and frequent about it. And he makes things up.

For instance, in the press conference yesterday, Trump claimed that he "went down" in a helicopter emergency with Willie Brown, and before they discussed Kamala Harris. "I know him pretty well" Trump said.

It never happened. Willie Brown said he was never in a helicopter with Trump.

Now Trump may have confused Willie Brown with Jerry Brown and the newly elected Newsom and a trip in a helicopter over burned ground in 2018. Representatives for both deny an emergency landing said there was no discussion about Kamala Harris.

Then Trump must be fixated on crowd size. He claimed his crowd size on Jan. 6, 2021 was larger than MLK's was for his 'I have a dream' speech.

There is no way that about 10,000 people is more than 250,000 people. It is ridiculous.

I believe all politicians lie. All of them.
And I ain't talking about them "spinning the facts a bit."
Some REALLY excel at it.
I believe the excuse that "all politicians lie" is the right's way of dismissing the many and flagrant lies that Trump has told.
Most see through it.

I believe that the left likes to look at Trump's lies in order to attempt to try to dismiss or ignore the lies from left wing liberal politicians and left wing liberal media.

I note Trump's lies because he has a life time pattern of fraud and misrepresentation. He was just convicted of 34 felony charges. He committed fraud with his Trump university, Trump foundation, and his taxes for multiple years.

The 34 felony charges and conviction are the result of the weaponization and lawfare of the New York City justice system. I have absolutely zero doubts that this conviction will be over turned upon appeals. Please remember that it appeared that millions of Americans are not buying into the stuff that is the "justice system" is selling. I remember that each time Trump was indicted by liberals in the justice system that the numbers of Americans supporting Donald Trump actually did increase.
Where are the real and actual facts as to if Trump cheated, or committed fraud, with his taxes?

No, the 34 counts are the result of Trump's behavior when running for president in 2016,

Millions ARE buying into the fact that Trump has committed fraud.

As to his business and taxes:

A New York judge ordered Donald Trump and his companies on Friday to pay $355 million in penalties, finding they engaged in a yearslong scheme to dupe banks and others with financial statements that inflated his wealth.
Trump won’t have to pay out the money immediately as an appeals process plays out, but the verdict still is a stunning setback for the former president.
If he’s ultimately forced to pay, the magnitude of the penalty, on top of earlier judgments, could dramatically diminish his financial resources. And it undermines the image of a successful businessman that he’s carefully tailored to power his unlikely rise from a reality television star to a onetime — and perhaps future — president.
Judge Arthur Engoron concluded that Trump and his company were “likely to continue their fraudulent ways” without the financial penalties and other controls he imposed. Engoron concluded that Trump and his co-defendants “failed to accept responsibility” and that experts who testified on his behalf “simply denied reality.”

That happened after a trial where the evidence was presented.

Donald Trump must pay $354.9 million in penalties for fraudulently overstating his net worth to dupe lenders, a New York judge ruled on Friday, handing the former U.S. president another legal setback in a civil case that imperils his real estate empire.
Justice Arthur Engoron, in a sharply worded decision, opens new tab issued after a contentious three-month trial in Manhattan, also banned Trump, who is running to regain the presidency this year, from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation for three years. Trump's lawyer Alina Habba vowed to appeal.
Engoron canceled his prior ruling from September ordering the "dissolution" of companies that control pillars of Trump's real estate empire, saying on Friday that this was no longer necessary because he is appointing an independent monitor and compliance director to oversee Trump's businesses.
Trump and the other defendants in the case, Engoron wrote in the ruling, "are incapable of admitting the error of their ways."
"Their complete lack of contrition and remorse borders on pathological," Engoron wrote. "Instead, they adopt a 'See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' posture that the evidence belies."
The lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James accused Trump and his family businesses of overstating his net worth by as much $3.6 billion a year over a decade to fool bankers into giving him better loan terms. Trump, who faces criminal charges in four other cases, has called the lawsuit a political vendetta by James, a Democrat.

Former President Donald Trump could owe more than $100 million in taxes as a result of a yearslong Internal Revenue Service inquiry into claims of huge losses on his Chicago skyscraper, The New York Times and ProPublica reported Saturday.
The news organizations reported Trump claimed massive financial losses twice — first on his 2008 tax return, when he said the building, then mired in debt, was “worthless,” and again after 2010, when he had shifted its ownership into a new partnership also controlled by Trump.
The 2008 claim resulted in Trump reporting losses as high as $651 million for the year, and there is no indication it drew an IRS challenge, the outlets reported. Then, Trump’s lawyers enabled further claims of losses in 2010 by shifting the Chicago tower into another partnership, “DJT Holdings LLC,” The Times and ProPublica reported.

The problem I have with something like this is it's likely biased and is the opinion of Coral Davenport and Linda Qiu. Not that I know anything about either of them. But the question is, who fact checking those two fact checkers?

And in my opinion unless the NYT and those two in particular, have ever done a fact check of this sort on Biden, that's a pretty good indicator that it's very one sided.

There is another fact check here:

They agreed that the crowd size statement by Trump was not true. Also agreed that people did die on Jan. 6th.
They mentioned other issues.

Politifact mentions the same things. It has the story about the helicopter going down as a pants on fire.
The claim about Jan 6th was false. That he had a bigger crowd size than MLK on the national mall - false.

The folks at the NYT explained why they wrote what they did.

In my mind the question remains; have they ever done a fact check like this on Biden? Or Harris? If not, why not?

Quite poetic a post needs to make something up to try and deflect from the made up stuff Trump said during his appearance.

This question was easily solved by a 5 second google search and didn't need to be an off topic post in this thread.
