  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

where they stand on the issues (rather than personal insults)

Pretty brief summaries hardly do justice but something to start with.

I'll give my view, the justice and election rhetoric has been beaten like a dead horse and NBC sounds a little left leaning but I'm glad the issues were posted. Some of Trump's issues are dated compared to what he saying now.
Housing (need to hear more substance).
K) "Harris introduced legislation to provide tax credits to households whose rent and utilities exceed 30% of their income, and a separate bill to invest more than $100 billion in affordable housing."
I have a feeling this will increase inflation and I'd like to know how the $100B will be spent.
T) "Trump would lower housing costs by encouraging the construction of new housing on the “periphery of cities and suburban areas” where land is cheapest and cancel Biden’s “anti-suburban housing regulation.”
How?
Social security
K) No benefit cuts (duh for both candidates) unless they like political suicide. (Taxing the wealthy is ok but not corporations).
T) “there’s a lot you can do in terms of entitlements", (and in context) " in terms of cutting,” Trump responded. “And in terms of, also, the theft and the bad management of entitlements — tremendous bad management of entitlements — there’s tremendous amounts of things and numbers of things you can do.”
I agree with theft because it's happening at my daughter's physical therapy for geriatrics.
Taxes
K) No new policy.
T) Extend his tax law but I differ because the deficit will increase with lower tax revenue and no talk about cutting spending.
Trade (Tariffs will add to inflation worst is a trade war)
K) Targeted
T) Lunacy
Education
K) "As vice president, she’s called for an increase in teacher pay and criticized Florida’s Black history curriculum," This is alarming history is history no matter how bad it was, the truth needs to be told.
T) I like hearing about parental rights.
Student Loan
K) "administration’s moves to provide more than $100 billion in student debt relief, and has specifically argued in favor of student debt relief for public servants." Even though she said student loan debt this money seems geared toward public servants which I agree with. No student loan forgiveness!
NATO ( I reserve comment about the countries mentioned, I still think Trump's tariffs will be disastrous foreign policy).
K) "Harris' own foreign policy views have been obscured by Biden's, and she had relatively little experience before joining the administration". This is concerning I'd like to hear her VP foreign policy.
Abortion
T) Trump's latest take is letting the state deal with abortion. ("He opposes taxpayer funding for abortions as do I for government funding for abortions.). Maybe the insurance companies can add a provision for abortion.
Transgender rights
K) This worries me I sort of watched this movement unfold recently. They may not have rights but they do have a powerful backer, especially when kids are taken from parents.
T) Agree on women sports I'm biased because I had two athletes.

Thx for this it made me look things up and educated me on K) policy.

Good job!

It is not as simple as left/right. Though I guess on all issues maybe there is some consistency or predictability where one will side.

We all need the patience to get past rhetoric and into the weeds.

I believe that Inflation and the Economy is the number 1 issue for most voters.
Absolutely. Thanks.

And they kind of interpenetrate. Trade, taxes, healthcare maybe under economy.
