  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello folks. For a long time, my neck is sensitive to touch, so I have not worn necklaces that much. Today, I found a cross made in France. It is 5 cm (2 inches long), and is made of rosewood and metal. Stuff made in Europe is high quality, plus the Jesus on the cross looks realistic. Even though France botched the Olympics, the French at one point in time were very religious and made crosses (it is a crying shame that France fell away from Christianity). Worse case scenario, if I still do not like wearing necklaces, I could use it as an ornament on my Christmas tree in December.

France has nice food, nice cities, beautiful countryside, beautiful women, and advanced technology such as Mistral AI and aviation such as Airbus.

Apparently, France has cool crosses as well.

Very nice! :)
Hopefully, it works. I am afraid of wearing it in public, cos I can be quick to judge others, and I do not want to give Christianity a bad reputation. But, I will wear it to church (assuming I get this cross), or try to wear it under my shirt, though the wood is really old, and I am not sure how sweat would impact wood, or if Jesus would be a bit too bulky under my shirt. Also, I am an old soul, so these old crosses are much cooler than the modern ones made in China.

The tradition to display/parade/wear crucifixes (with Jesus' mutilated body still on it) seems to stem from the 6th century CE.

Personally I have a preference for 'empty' crosses as it points to the resurrected and ascended Christ in His glory. I don't wear crosses but I'm thinking of putting an 'ichthus' (fish) on my car - which was the earliest symbol followers of 'the Way' used in the history of the church. The church I visited this morning had a huge raw timber empty cross at the front.

Ooh, I see your point. And yes, the 6th century is relatively late in the game of the history of Christianity, as the fish was used as early as the 2nd century AD (~400 years prior to the crucifix). I like empty crosses as well, but I like the crucifix, cos the wood is classy and old, just like my soul. It is sad how crucifixes display a mutilated Jesus, and I will never wear this cross around younger folks (unless on accident), in order to protect the children from images of violence or a dying Jesus, as the cross is technically an execution device. In fact, I do not like watching R rated movies and very rarely watch MA rated shows, and prefer the PG-13 stuff. That is how squeamish I am of violence.

Wow, the fish symbol has bee around for 1800 years: Ichthys - Wikipedia

You are a wise man, brother, so I will take your advice, and not parade this cross around. Also, go ahead, put the fish on the car, cos we do need more of those in our secular world. Sadly, in my town, some of those fishes say "Darwin" on the inside, a sick parody of the Christian ichthys.

The church that I go to does not have a crucifix as the main cross, and instead has a resurrected Jesus.
