Joe Biggs was an instigator of the seditious conspiracy at the Capital on January 6th 2021, alongside Zachary Rehi. they have been sentenced to 17 years and 15 years respectively.

A leader of the far-right Proud Boys has been sentenced to 17 years in prison, one of the longest terms yet handed out over the US Capitol riot.

US Army veteran Joe Biggs, 38, was an instigator of the storming of Congress on 6 January 2021, prosecutors said.

The former Infowars correspondent was convicted of seditious conspiracy and other charges in May.

In court, Biggs pleaded for leniency and expressed remorse for his actions.

The sentence, handed down by US District Judge Timothy Kelly, is below both federal sentencing guidelines and the 33 years sought by prosecutors.

Another Proud Boys member, Zachary Rehl, was sentenced on Thursday to 15 years, also on a charge of seditious conspiracy.

The charges of "obstructing an official proceeding" and "criminal conspiracy" (maybe) are valid

the uncharge of "sedition" is a stretch, and politically motivated

they give this guy 17 years while serial rapists, murderers, etc. get 8-10

and the people who took over the Wisconsin state house in 2011 were never charged with anything

But see, the philosophies and poititical-forces that allowed this guy to “do bad things” still exist, nothing about what caused him to do these things has really been dealt with, justly.

Sedition was a capital offence. It is about as serious as it comes. I don't know about America but in UK serial rapists and murderers get very long sentences - life for the latter.

Biggs and his followers were unarmed, and their goal was not to overthrow the US government. He was interfering in an election and an official proceeding. He was also trespassing

this is escalation from the political left and the Democratic Party --basically start jailing people for life on political grounds

and the only thing that does, is convince radicals on the right that the government is corrupt, and the Democrats are authoritarians --it encourages even worse behavior

The court has clearly taken a different view. The court weighed the evidence. Biggs and the other convicted man have been found guilty of extremely serious charges. The events of that day were correctly described as a riot. It is misleading to deny their responsibility on the grounds that they did not carry guns themselves. There were firearms carried by rioters. They were tried as instigators and the presence of firearms was a result of their leadership.

American justice has been done and seen to be done. This case has taken four years to conclude. That indicates painstaking work.

I am surprised at how readily posters here denigrate their country by denying the integrity of the courts, defaming the judiciary and the forces of the law. I have gained the impression that many on the right actually hate and despise their country.

If Jan 6th had been launched by left-wing protestors, you would be arguing for their immediate release and forgiveness

"American justice has been done" means "the people I don't like were thrown in jail", not "the law was followed"

Protestors and rioters were burning police stations, occupying city blocks, assaulting and killing people in 2020, and they were cheered on by Democratic lawmakers
