LOL, I remember when Reagan was elected. I slapped a Regan bumper sticker on my dad's car (...who wasn't too thrilled with stickers, but went along with it).

6 days is not long.
It just seems that way since many others did so in 24 hours.
Reagan was a much better Republican compared to the newer crop we have in 2024, even though his Reaganomics system was a little flawed. Were you and your father both Reagan supporters at the time?

Yeah, 6 days is pretty quick in the long scheme of things. It is good that Obama used a little more patience before jumping on the train of support for Kamala.

If I were stage managing Kamala's bid for the Presidency, I would do a gradual buildup exactly like what has been happening.

Start with Biden's withdrawal and Kamala's nomination then gradually add in endorsements from the lesser players leaving the big names like Pelosi and the Obamas to the last. It creates the effect of a 'snowballing' endorsement. The momentum gradually increases creating the impression of a popular groundswell. It also keeps Kamala at the top of the news and leaves Trump's 'assassination' story in the dust.

OB

The Obama's called Harris on Wednesday. The video annoucement was made early Friday morning, so I think you're right.

Six days isn‘t long.
Besides, waiting until after Joe formally announced his departure from the race is just “good form”.
Allowing less influential players endorse Harris’ bid, makes the Obamas’ slightly more significant.
It’s old-timey politics, which is a craft (when you come down to it); like any craft that seemingly anyone can attempt but only the talented produce anything of note.
I like old-timey politics, which is one of more finesse, instead of trying to cram the evening news with propaganda. Obama was one of the last major somewhat old-timey politicians in our country, and he spoke with eloquence.

You must understand for many, 6 days is a long, long time.

True, cos a lot of folks' patience has decreased since the dawn of instant media. But, patience is a virtue, and it is perfectly okay to wait 6 days.

Ok, thanks! Mark Kelly, eh? Don't know anything about his other than briefly skimming your article. Maybe he'll be VP? Apparently, he's already gone after Vance - attack dog is one of the traditional duties of the VP candidate. Aside - Spiro Agnew had William Saffire as his wordsmith; while I disagreed with his positions, he articulated them very well.
What's interesting is we are now seeing Harris looking at possible VPs. And guess who she's seriously considering? Mark Kelly.

Especially when you are negotiating with those who's support you are wanting. A lot of support came quickly, within 24 hours. There wasn't any reason for rhe Obamas not to throw Harris their support quickly. Except they dont like her. So there were negotiations to be had. I think Kelly was the key. I guess we'll see what happens. I could be completely wrong here.

[Read in David Attenborough voice] One may never know what runs through a politician's head and who these politicians may endorse is up in the air, as political figures are of a deeply, complex breed of humans. On the left we have politicians pushing strange doctrines onto the populous, while on the right we have individuals who have grown far from what the original GOP of Abraham Lincoln wanted.

But yes, it is good that Obama waited to endorse Kamala. Also, Mark Kelly might make a good VP for Kamala, but I do not know.

I'm pretty sure you're mistaken. Obama has always been cautious endorsing one Democratic candidate over another. Don't you remember back in 2020 how long he took to endorse his old running mate? And they were/are genuine friends, not just political buddies.

No they weren't. They didn't like each other. Obama chose Biden because he thought he needed an older white guy. He thought America was such a racist country that two "exotics" wouldn't get elected.

Yes, they were friends. He may have chosen Biden for the reasons you mentioned or not - I heard that Biden’s foreign policy experience and good Senate relationships were key - they were nonetheless friends for realsies.

It took 6 days but Obama finally endorsed Harris. I don't think the Obamas liked Harris very much. They wanted someone else. But they finally did in an obviously staged awkward phone call.

I wonder what they are getting in return. Could it be they get their guy in the Vice-President role?

The democratic machine made the decision to install Harris ... rather than allowing democratic voters to vote for the nominee of their choice.
Obamas were/are in a position of no choice as well.
