  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It will be interesting to see the appeals of this ruling. I'm guessing the appeals court will overrule this ruling, since Jack Smith reports to the DoJ and has limited power. We'll see what the Supreme Court decides, though it appears Justice Thomas has already prejudged the case.

Regardless, this has done exactly what Trump wanted -- ensured the case will not come to trial before the November election.

I am glad because other politicians had classified material. Try one try them all.
President's do retain documents. The fact that Joe Biden had classified documents from the time he was a senator was particularly disturbing.

I believe the U.S. Constitution will stand. Yes, Trump wants to be able to campaign during campaign season and does not want to be tied up in court or under a gag order. I agree with Trump on that point, I think the American people deserve to hear what he and other candidates have to say with no government interference.

Of course, it's disturbing to you because Joe is a Democrat. What about Pence? No one should be allowed to keep classified documents period. There are laws to be followed when it comes to classified documents.

I think the U.S. Constitution will stand.

I'm sure the Constitution will stand, but that doesn't tell us how the Supreme Court will rule; regardless of Justice Thomas' apparent bias in the case.

Not for Trump, apparently. Trump wasn't being tried for having classified material. He was being tried for lying about having it and refusing to give it back.

Trump wasn't being tried for having classified material.
He should have been. There is no reason classified material should be taken from a secured area to a nonsecured area.

Then so should Biden and Pence. In that respect, Trump, Biden and Pence have been treated equally under the law.

Remember the covers of the documents that indicated they were classified were put there by the FBI for a staged photo. That's called evidence tampering, and criminal charges need to be pursued.

Trump wasn't being tried for having classified material.
32 of the counts were for the willful retention of national defense information.

Like I've said for years, Trump's MO* is to lose in the lower courts and win in the higher courts. That's why I always find the lower court losses kinda comical.

*Yes, I know he's not batting 1000, but he's doing pretty well. That's why I see it as his MO. Or, more precisely, our legal system's MO when it comes to Trump. Thing is, it's easer to put partisan hacks behind the bench in lower courts than higher courts.

Which would have been let to slide if he had not lied about having them and then refused to give them back.

They were. Pence and Biden cooperated and returned what documents they had but Trump not only did not return them when requested but went to great lengths to retain them - lying, moving them and outright hiding them. And then there’s the sheer volume of the documents he knowingly stole.

I don’t understand the denial.

Have you actually compared his losses that stood with the losses later overturned? I think you got his MO wrong.
