  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is what the "climate change" agenda is all about. Collecting more cash from the peasants.
This is sickening. I am all for protecting the Earth, cos of Genesis, but taxing the common folk (poor and middle class) is sickening. If we want to stop climate change, we must tax the billionaires who fly private jets.

The Bible talks about protecting our Earth and not defiling creation, as said in Genesis 2, Isaiah 24 and Jeremiah 2. :) Big Oil and Big Coal did not get the memo, and neither did Musk* or other billionaires. In fact, in 2022 alone, Musk's private jet emitted nearly 2000 tons of CO2, much more so compared to the average person.

*Musk Private Jet emissions (News article): What emissions? Elon Musk's private jet made more than 130 flights in 2022

The goal isn't collecting more money. It's forcing consumers hand and making them vote with their wallet. The tax will undoubtedly raise prices which would lead to less consumption. Alternatives will probably be less expensive to entice consumers.

Its not just for cows, but also for pigs and sheep.

Its supposed to start from 2030 and with 16 euros per metric ton of CO2. Which would make 96 euros per cow per year.

Denmark wants to be carbon neutral by 2045.

I am not sure how it will help the planet if Denmark will import the meat, instead of growing it. But.. politics, eh.

Hard to say who created this idea, to tax the best available food for health, instead of truly destructive products and processes.
I see that, but if a farmer has 50 cows, that that would be 4800 Euros. That is a lot of money. 2045 is a good aspiration and goal for going carbon neutral, but there are other ways of going about this, such as building more wind turbines, or implementing carbon capture technology, or even better: Denmark should tax the billionaires instead.

I do not think this is how taxation works. You cannot be taxed only based on what you are. Taxation is from income or from your economic activity.

That is true, but there should be rules where fuel for private jets should be taxed higher than fuel for flying commercial, or where if someone has over $1 billion, then, he must give all earnings that lead to his billionaire status to keep his net worth under $1B.

There are like 9 dollar billionaires in Denmark.

Directly to the poor, or organizations.
Thats basically impossible to enforce. Europe has strong personal freedom and economic liberty laws, if some country tried to enforce to take away the wealth of an individual person, the constitutional court of the country or even the EU court would stop that and punish such government.

On the other hand, its not even needed. Billionaires do not store their wealth under their bed, but have it invested in various companies, bonds, real estates etc. I.e. their money are running through the economy, create jobs and GDP.

The third issue is that they would simply move to another country and took their money with them. So these laws never help the initial country.

I think that a much better solution is simply creating an economic environment in which poor will have a safety net, but also ways to get wealthy by their own economic activity, instead of punishing the wealthy and simply giving their money to poor directly, basically for nothing.
And I think Denmark is very good regarding social mobility. Actually, the best in the world:

Those 9 billionaires could pay slightly higher taxes to cover the costs to go carbon neutral.
Higher taxes for higher gains are already implemented in many places. Lets say they have some capital gains:

Personal income from shares (both dividends and realized capital gains) is taxed at 27% for amounts below DKK 50,000 and 42% for amounts above that threshold

I don't think there is any time in history where any people who sold anything were taxed more and their income or company profits ever went down because of it if they were big enough, etc, and in fact company profits/salary increases for "key employees" kept increasing the same exact way they were always scheduled to be/do/go regardless, or irregardless, etc.

But occasionally they might try to reduce lower labor, or make income cuts on those on the bottom, but it is not ever to decrease prices, or make what they are selling or producing cheaper, but only increase those on or at the tops profits/incomes ultimately, etc.

Oh, and when they catch wind of just even the slightest hint of any kind of news of any kind of increasing inflation, they also use that "opportunity" to increase/raise prices/profit margins/salaries for key employees as well, if they are big enough, etc, because increases are already happening, and no one will notice, etc.

It's just how big business works, etc.

Oh, and they just keep flying their private jets all over the place also, etc.

This is why we need to think of something better to change the state of the economy, etc.

Oh, and increasing taxes on other nations for their goods or services, etc, same thing there as well, or also, etc.

This is why we need to think of something better to change the state of the economy, etc.

We should only try to change a thing or something only when and where we know it is not just going to be handed down to the consumer, etc. Which doesn't leave us with very much, etc.

Hopefully they are smart enough to not cause demand to change or go down too quickly, but I doubt it though really.

This why they need new people, and new population growth though, to replace those who they've bankrupted, and they care not after that about those who they bankrupted, as long as they always have a constant and steady and upward growth of brand new consumers that will keep their profit margins always going up and up and up, etc.

Ultimately it's not sustainable though, etc.

God Bless.

So, they will "force" us to eat bugs? Klaus' dream come true!

There are ways around it of course. If possible, start purchasing your meat direct in bulk. It's far cheaper than the store and you'll have more diverse options for meals. Going in with friends and loved ones allows you to split the cost and increase the return. All purchases include organ meat, bones, skin and lard. Plus special preparations like burgers, sausages and bacon if desired. I paid $3.66 per pound for pork and $4.16 for grass-fed beef. Both were organic.

Denmark does have good social mobility. We will just have to wait and see what will happen with this new rule for 2030. So, maybe get rid of the cow tax, and give folks a discount on their electric bill if they use less than the average electricity per person.

If a person gets solar panels, allow him to get a discount on energy efficient appliances. If a person keeps his phone for over 6 years (to reduce electronics waste), allow him to have free cellular service for the remainder of the phone's lifespan. So, that means, if a person keeps the same phone for 7 years before the phone dies, his last year of cellular service could be free. Positive incentives could make people want to be green.
