  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ABC will now air Biden interview with Stephanopoulos tonight (Friday) at 8pm instead of Sunday.

Why ABC moved the Biden interview to air Friday night

Anchor George Stephanopoulos is expected to interview Biden on Friday in Wisconsin, the president’s first extended interview with a major media network since his disastrous debate performance last week that has led many in the Democratic Party to question whether Biden should be the nominee. ABC had planned to release clips Friday evening, and the whole interview would air during Stephanopoulos’ Sunday morning show, “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.”

Recognizing this extraordinary political moment, however, ABC had a change of heart. ABC News realized it would be uncomfortable to hold onto the interview for nearly two days, according to a source familiar with the matter. ABC may have been accused, fairly or not, of hiding something, and the news cycle is moving at a rapid pace.

A network source told CNN that because the story is of “national interest,” ABC decided to make it a “primetime special” to air the same day the interview is taking place.

That has the potential to be a double edged sword - Joe had eight days of prep, naps and rest - and he is reading from a teleprompter right now expending a lot of energy.

It could very realistically back fire.

Given that more than half the threads on the first page of American Politics are about the debate performance or Biden's fitness, it's safe to say the danger is already there.

I gotta say that this is the most exciting political season in the US in my lifetime, though the Democrat convention in 1968 is a distant second. And, having faith in Jesus, I'm not the least bit concerned about how this thing will turn out. I think we're going to be seeing even more schadenfreude in the next few months.

If Trump loses, I promise to only take joy in the brighter future for my country, and not in the mental suffering of his followers.

By all means, do that. I'm prepared also. I have a can of gas, a book of matches, and a fiddle. I'm prepared. :tearsofjoy:

Ditto. Except replace Trump with Biden. It’ll be fun watching the left meltdown and scream at the sky.

You don’t believe that the left will soldier-on as it did 2017-2021?

This is usually not a good sign. Releasing something at the end of the week is usually reserved for bad news. The weekend blunts it heading into the following week's news cycle. But anyway. Why wasn't the interview broadcast live?

I'm a bit slow on the West Coast, but it appears I'm first to comment.

It was okay that Biden was defensive, but he several times veered into denial about Democratic discontent and polling and approval ratings.

This was probably, literally, his one chance to quell that discontent. I don't think he succeeded.

The worms are out of the can, and this didn't put them back.

IMHO

He was more articulate. But he was pretty repetitive as though sticking to issuing rehearsed talking points. Stephanopoulos kept trying to dig deeper and get more spontaneity but didn't get very far with that.

Yup. They are very entertaining. This one never gets old. I'm honestly surprised they have not taken it down. It's embarrassing.

WaPo opinion writer cribbing from me:

Stephanopoulos hectored him with nonstop and repetitive questions about his mental acuity for the full 22-minute session, which undoubtedly made Biden defensive. But the president seemed to be in denial about the magnitude of the problem facing him, unwilling even to acknowledge the obvious truth that he has lost a step over the last 3½ years.

I've seen highlights/lowlights. I think the democrats want him out, and this will seal the deal. This is the most fascinating election in my adult life (i'm 70). Nothing compares.
