  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Benny Hinn, who is known for faith healing crusades and preaching a prosperity gospel, recently told his followers that donating “seed” money to his ministry will guarantee them financial protection in the midst of a future that will be darker than any other in human history.

“Well, listen, I want you to give to the Lord’s work. I want you to sow seed in the Lord’s work,” Hinn said at the end of a video titled, “Shameless Begging.” “We are facing days of such darkness and such danger unseen in the history of mankind. Unseen since Adam. Worse than anything that has happened in the past…and only those who’ve been faithful in giving to God’s work will be protected financially in those days.”

“A faithful man will abound…with blessings,” said Hinn. “So this is not just for now; this is for the future. A faithful man will abound with blessing. You can’t lose your seed. Any farmer will tell you that. You can’t lose your seed. Your seed goes into your tomorrow. Your seed goes into your future.”

Wow, what a lucky guy! He gets rich and gets to "help" the body of Jesus Christ through the verse in Matthew and Revelation that specifies that we are to give all of our money to televangelists in the last day to ensure our safety. Wait a minute. I thought only God knew when the Last day was coming. Odd point, I'm struggling to find those verses about giving all of my money to Televangelists. My bible may be missing 1st Hinn 1-3. Benny Hinn and the old Creflo Dollar are going to have some "splaining" to do on a very specific day. I'm not sayng one way or another how that would go, but as a human being who has spent much of my life waiting outside the proverbial principles office, I don't envy those guys one bit.

How about just staying with the point you want to really make. If you score a point on the prosperity issue THAT DOES NOT mean you can say healing meetings are foolishness.

and preaching a prosperity gospel, recently told his followers that donating “seed” money to his ministry will guarantee them financial protection in the midst of a future that will be darker than any other in human history.
I agree that sounds pretty presumptuous to maybe claim. Might actually be on his case too. Keep in mind though that one Prophet Elijah did tell this to a woman once,

So he (Elijah) arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 11And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. 12And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth,

I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. 14For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. 15And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. 16And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah. 1 Kings 17:10

My point? You just can't make a universal declaration that saying A or B is always wrong. Might be sometimes with some people but perhaps not all.

My brother in law was healed at what I assume was a Catholic charismatic church. The Lord healed my heart last year after a heart attack from prayer. I don't believe you have to give to ministries, especially televangelists to receive blessings from God. Giving should come from the heart and not to get something. A lot of churches provide bible verses on tithing so you dutifully give and I feel that's wrong. Giving to a homeless person on a street corner in Jesus's name is more beneficial than giving to Benny Hinn.
