  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"The fallout continues after Robert Morris resigned from Gateway Church over furor following allegations he molested a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s. Morris, 62, who resigned from Gateway last week, offered an initial statement on the allegations against him in which he again used the term “young lady.”


I don't know what's worse, what he did to her, or that church leaders were not willing to hear her out.

This is sad how a pastor abused a 12-year-old girl. It is good that Morris stepped out of leadership, and I hope that he never steps back in ministry, unless he has fully repented. Prayer for the victim, and that Morris stays away from immorality.

There should be no "unless" about it. There are some sins, that while God will forgive if a person is truly, truly repentant, should still keep people out of Christian ministry.

I do agree. This guy would taint the Christian faith, so he must stay out. Saw a few videos about that recently, and most videos say that this guy would taint the faith.

Repent or not, he should never be allowed back in ministry. There are too many pastors out there who do this that are allowed back in.

Agreed. Titus and 1 Corinthians say something along those lines. So, I was wrong. This guy should be banned from ever being a pastor.

Titus 3:10-13 (ESV): "As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned."

1 Corinthians 5:1-2 (ESV): "It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father's wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you."

God may forgive him at the appropriate time, but he blew his chance at ministry and deserves no chance to return to being around children in any church capacity, repentance or not.

This was just one person. I can only wonder how many others are out there.

We will have to see what happens in the future, but hope and pray that he stays away from ministry. There could be hundreds of unqualified ministers out there in the world.
