Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Too hot for Mass?

It's 96 degrees here with high humidity. My church has no air conditioning. I have asthma. Would I have to go to confession if I skipped Mass this week? I can barely breathe out there.

You can skip mass. God is forgiving, as I have not gone to confession since April 2022, but will go again soon. Mass can be aired on TV.

I just wonder about missing the Eucharist. :( But, I will watch Mass on EWTN. Thanks for your reply!

No if you have asthma in this kind of poor air quality you do not need to go to confession for missing Mass this weekend.

Thanks! If there was a breeze, I might consider it. But it's like a sauna out there.

You are welcome. Jesus lives in all of us, so don't worry. Heck, Catholic astronauts may not have access to the Eucharist on a hypothetical 9 month mission to Mars, but Jesus will still save them.

Yes anytime not attending Mass concerns illness, taking care of someone who is ill, emergencies, circumstances beyond your control such as weather, etc., there is no need to confess it. :)

You know what else is too hot for mass?

This priest. :) He was viral on social media for his good looks. Glad I do not use social media though, except for Christian Forums, as social media is toxic.

No, you’re fine if you can’t attend.

@Chrystal-J

As I am not Catholic I can only suggest that you should , discuss this with your Priest at some point and get his recommendation as to how you should act re attending Mass in similar situations in the future .

Hope this gets easier for you soon :praying::praying:

That's hot!

You're not expected to attend in blizzards, ice or hurricane conditions - same goes for heat. If the heat stifles you, don't put yourself into situations where you'll suffer or make yourself ill.
Are you close enough to your church to approach the priest/sacristan to receive the eucharist from them outside of Mass time?

Not really. Our priest has to watch over 2 churches. He's very busy.
What I decided to do is donate during the week and have a Mass said for my late sister and mother.

Give this mass a miss and go again when you can. All you would be doing if you tried to attend mass in the heat with your asthma would be to provide a distraction for other people as you struggled to breathe.

God knows your intentions. He knows you better than you know yourself.

Do call your parish anyhow. Perhaps they can have someone bring communion to you.

My parish doesn't have air conditioning either. It has ceiling fans but they're very high up. I suppose you could ask your priest, but I wouldn't be too hard on yourself.
This is the inside of my church:

Gee, why is everyone else's church seemingly better-looking than mine? :|
