  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Missouri attorney general to sue New York over Trump prosecutions

Andrew Bailey’s lawsuit targets New York attorney general and Manhattan DA, who both secured Trump convictions

Bailey, a Republican politician appointed by Missouri’s governor, Mike Parson, last year, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he would be filing a lawsuit “against the State of New York for their direct attack on our democratic process through unconstitutional lawfare against President Trump”.

“We have to fight back against a rogue prosecutor who is trying to take a presidential candidate off the campaign trail. It sabotages Missourians’ right to a free and fair election,” he added in a subsequent message.

Well, when this gets tossed out, that should eliminate this 'lawfare' nonsense. (Who am I kidding?)

Lemme get this straight.
One of the States of the United States of America is suing another State because the other State administered their own Laws without regard to how that administration would affect National Elections?

It’s novel, I’ll give it that, just think what fun it’d be if this actually went to trial!
(We’re gonna need more lawyers!)

The NY county DA should (after the suit is filed) move for an immediate dismissal with prejudice due to a lack of standing and then move for sanctions against the Mo. AG and lawyers for wasting the court's time and interfering with the sovereign powers of another state.

Seems legit to me. Anyone who kept up with the particulars of the trial could see that the whole thing was a sham. It was an obvious tactic by his opponents to remove him from the Presidential race. If that can be demonstrated—and I believe it can be—then it would be a legitimate suit.

Feel free to disagree, but don't waste your time responding to this. I just wanted to throw in my two cents. I won't argue politics.

Cyrus Vance isn't Trump's opponent in the presidential race. Vance subpoenaed the (falsified) business records in 2019, when Trump was still president. Trump sued his way to the Supreme Court of the United States, twice. Losing both times, but causing years of delay. The timing of the trial is largely the fault of Donald Trump himself. The thought that this was all a well-crafted 5-year mission to affect the election is absurd. Not to mention the fact that the guilty verdict does nothing to remove Trump as a candidate.

Feel free to disagree, but don't waste your time responding to this.
I'm sorry you wasted time writing that nonsense, but it's important that misinformation be countered with information.

I guess you just have the market cornered on what's correct information. Silly me for giving my two cents in the presence of a political mastermind of your skills and intelligence. People like you are why I won't argue politics. You just can't help yourself but to respond. Heaven forbid someone should think differently than you.

The issue here is that there is a clear right and wrong on this topic. In this case, the major issue is standing -- Missouri has no right to tell New York how New York should enforce their laws. It isn't much different from when Texas sued Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, Michigan, after the 2020 election, and it was thrown out for standing -- in the same way, Texas has no right to dictate how other states create and enforce election laws. Basically, they are claiming that New York is not a sovereign state but can be ruled by the people of Missouri, if Missouri doesn't like what New York does.

Beyond that, as mentioned, none of the criminal trials do anything to prevent Donald Trump from running for President. Even if former President Trump is sentenced and jailed, he can still be voted in as President while sitting in jail.

Sometimes in this forum there are things that have clear answers, based on the law, and this is one of those. This is not a valid lawsuit and will be thrown out, it is instead merely done as a PR move by the Missouri AG.

You have hardened your heart to the truth my friend. Good luck. Heaven forbid someone else may be correct.

I can clearly see your aversion to arguing over politics by the way you’ve gotten away from the issue at hand and made this post about a fellow forum-mate.

The rule-of-law places principles above politics, (or, to be plainer) “personalities”; Mister Trump has a loyal following which seems willing to jettison ROL in favor of their Leader.

I wish them “good luck” with that.

I actually just looked at a link under a list of recent threads. It didn’t conspicuously specify a particular category. I saw the title, was curious, read the post, and offered my two cents. But knowing full well that arguing politics in this modern day is the absolute most vain activity in the world, I was up front in stating that I had no intention of doing so. Those who support Trump will usually forgive any fault. Those who hate him think he deserves life in prison if he jaywalks. Neither’s mind can ever be changed. So, realistically, this isn’t even a debate. This is slam or defend Trump, which would rapidly degrade into name-calling and ugliness.

Have a nice day.

Yes, but it is still in the debate section. Regardless of if you know it or not if you post in the debate section people will debate you.

But knowing full well that arguing politics in this modern day is the absolute most vain activity in the world, I was up front in stating that I had no intention of doing so.
Yet here you are for the third time. Careful, you might get sucked in. This area can get pretty lively.

Those who support Trump will usually forgive any fault.
<Looks at the death threats anyone opposed to Trump has been subject to> Not finding that one credible.

Those who hate him think he deserves life in prison if he jaywalks.
Certainly they would like to see him face some comeuppance.
Neither’s mind can ever be changed. So, realistically, this isn’t even a debate. This is slam or defend Trump, which would rapidly degrade into name-calling and ugliness.
You mean like hollering at someone for having the audacity to respond to you on a debate forum?
Have a nice day.
Thank you. Been pretty good so far. Hope yours is going well also.

Those who do not enjoy a lively and cogent debate amongst political adversaries “fun” (to a degree), are usually guilty of taking the subject a bit too seriously.

Those of us who are Americans here, surely love our country and would like it to survive and thrive in the coming years, come-what-may. I dearly love my conservative friends and relatives and don’t think that they want to “ruin the Nation” simply because they want Donald Trump to regain the Presidency.

Both sides needs to ratchet back on the notion that *the other side is the real enemy*.
It’s normal to argue about politics, we’ve always done it and we always will, until it’s not “allowed”.

Absolutely correct. I live in Missouri, AKA, the Show Me state. Can someone show me where AG Bailey has any standing to file suit against the state of NY? Bailey was appointed as state AG last year, and is now running for a full term. Obviously, this is just a stunt to gain support from the troglodyte wing of conservative voters.

I would think he has the troglodyte wing wrapped up. He should be more concerned about the regular conservatives who may not appreciate these stunts.

While I think the trial against Trump was a stretch, I wouldn't go so far as to call it an outright sham. It should be noted that Trump did himself no favors. Conservative lawyer Andrew McCarthy, even while arguing in an article that "the case is a constitutional travesty from its very foundations" (I wouldn't go that far), still declared "Team Trump has presented one of the most ill-conceived, self-destructive defenses I have ever seen in decades of trying and analyzing criminal cases".

However, even if it was the greatest miscarriage of justice in the history of the United States, that doesn't mean the Missouri attorney general gets the right to sue over it. To sue, you need standing, which is normally done by demonstrating an injury to yourself; you don't get to sue just because you don't personally like what someone else is doing. What injury has the Missouri attorney general suffered over the application of a New York law against someone else?
