I thought that this would have been made into a thread by now.

What do y'all think about all of this stuff coming out today in testimony to the US Senate? How much trust do y'all have in Boeing jets? What should be and what will be the consequences for their actions should the various leaders in Boeing be expected to face?

I trust in the Boeing 757, wooo, yeah, lets goooo. :)

The newer planes from Boeing made over the past 10 or so years I do not trust as much, but still trust more than a car. For instance, the 737MAX was designed during the 2010s.

The 757 (depicted below, with pre-2022 Icelandair livery/logos) was designed in the 1980s, when companies put safety and people over profits. Once again, a 24 year old guy likes the classics. You see guys, old school is cool. Modern is good also, but with moderation.

For modern Boeing, don't get me started man. I prefer Airbus (A320/A330) over the Boeing 737MAX, due to the incidents the Max has had since 2019. Boeing needs to go back to the 2000s and before, where planes were designed with safety in mind over shareholders.

Boeing was good until they acquired Macdonel Douglas. Once they merged the culture of quality engineering was replaced by a culture of chasing shareholder approval. It was all downhill from there.

Agreed 100%, as the McDonnell Douglas acquisition happened in the 1990s, and the newer planes in the 2000s-2020s began to be plagued with more issues. By the way, if I seem extra talkative on this subject and if I linger on this thread for a few days or more, planes and technology are fascinating stuff.

Dallas News has an article on just that:

Do you wanna have some fries with that McDonald Douglas plane? :)

Ooh, there was a Boeing 787 (sadly, not a McDonnell Douglas) that was powered by 100% french fry oil (well, used cooking oil in general) and plant oil in 2023 in a world's first:

It is getting late here, 11:05 PM, but be prepared for some plane and simple humor, and more stuff related to aircraft posted tomorrow in this thread. Also, I might even share a video tomorrow that one YouTube guy did who explained the Boeing 737 Max issues, supported with news articles linked as well.

The American way of business now: chase short term share value and bonuses, get out fast. Farm out the tedious work, focus on the lucrative management.

Its really sad to see a once great American company take such an.... um.... nose dive.

Do I trust the planes? 777 sure. 787 a little less. 737max.... Id be a bit nervous, and Ive never felt that way about a plane before.

I agree with you on this.

By the way, the triple 7 is my favorite aircraft, back when Boeing made good aircraft in the early 1990s. Says so on my profile. :)

This 13 minute video by Real Engineering (Brian McManus, a lovely engineering dude from Ireland) explains the Alaska Airlines issue with the 737MAX:

And a news article, where the NTSB said that Boeing is hiding crucial information for the investigation (March 2024):

Less and less everyday.
If given a choice of aircraft when planning travel, I will pick older 737's, 777, and 757. Otherwise, Airbus.

Edit: And 747 (sadly, only Lufthansa is still flying the Queen of the Skies).

Woo, we both like the 757 and triple 7. And yes, Airbus makes good planes. One plane, the A300 was discontinued in 2007, after 35 years of being manufactured. How many years do we posit when Boeing ends production of the Max? 10 years, 20 years? I have never been on the A300, but it is a classic. However, Airbus continues to maintain high quality planes in 2024.

Ooh, I love Lufthansa. Those Boeing 747-8s are nice inside (introduced in 2005, shortly before Boeing went to crap), and the lavatories look really modern and clean, perfect for 90 seconds of cleaning my sweaty hair in the sink during a long flight (assuming no line behind me). Also, the sinks are automatic, but have temperature adjustment that is color coded with LED indicators. Two blue LEDs = cold, green LED = warm, while two red LEDs = hot, with other color combinations of blue, green and red for coldish warm and warmish hot. Haven't been on Lufthansa since 2016 though. Also, the food was good, and free, as most international flights have free food.

Also, all natural Milka chocolate bars, woo, luft your hans into the air for some chocolate, lets go bros. :)

This is not a Lufthansa lavatory, but the sink is the same brand., and is indicating warmish hot.
