Continued from Hebrews It! (Legal Study, Chapter 2:16-18) Pt. 12

Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brothers and companions in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession;
Fun Fact, we closed OP Pt. 11 with this statement. "We Go HOME! We don't "Sleep" in the earth and wait for the final day! *Editing in* When Jesus came to us, it was the FINAL DAY of the Old Covenant's Condemnation. Even the wicked dwell in realm of shades as shades. Scripture doesn't reveal a world dependent on physical substance. Scripture reveals a physical world dependent on the Spirit of God. Why have so many fallen to horrific fates in the Name of Jesus Christ? Why will so many more willingly fall to horrific fates in the Name of Jesus Christ? Because, we know that this is NOT OUR HOME! We have a better Home that is only a lifetime away. Though many of us desire to be Absent from the BODY and PRESENT with THE LORD, we also know that He has use for us, here. We live out each day waiting for HIM to use us, to build up the very HEAVENLY KINGDOM of God with the very thing that God and the Angel's rejoice over!
Luke 15:7 Jesus continued, “In the same way, there will be a glorious celebration in heaven over the rescue of one lost sinner who repents, comes back home, and returns to the fold—more so than for all the righteous people who never strayed away.”

Now, only 5 verses from where we discussed this, here we are at a statement that reads multiple ways!
Heavenly Calling: The calling HOME!
Heavenly Calling: The Gospel Commission
Heavenly Calling: Jesus Christ and getting to know Him as He gets to know us, more deeply each day!
Heavenly Calling: Jesus is our Apostle, High Priest, the very Confession of our Soul's and Mouths!
Heavenly Calling: 1 Corinthians 13 and James 2 - 3
Heavenly Calling: The indwelling Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ within us!

Hebrews 3:1 Cross References <- This verse in Hebrews is DEEPLY ROOTED into ALL scripture! It branches out in so many directions that it is almost incomprehensible!

Okay, "The Author of Hebrews" calls Jesus our Apostle. This word Apostle, I have to wonder about this.
652 [e], Apostolon, Ἀπόστολον, apostle, N-AMS (34 of the 80 usages of this word were used by Paul)
Galatians 2:20 and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
I'm not going to flat out say it, but Hebrews is one of the most profound books in scripture! The very fact that it's Author remains "Unknown" is beyond amazing! This is a scriptural Masterpiece! I will just say one thing on this matter! It is written like a person with the OT knowledge of a Pharisee wrote it! I'm not talking OT razzle dazzle, here. I'm saying that whoever the Holy Spirit used to write this book must have been so overwhelmed with the final product that they either feared that if the Pharisees who hadn't turned to Jesus found out who wrote it, their ministry would have been insta-ended, or they were rendered to feel unworthy of having their name attached to such a powerful work of the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ. Either possibility really drives home the potency of Hebrews, for certain!
(NLT) Hebrews 3:1 And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God and are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about this Jesus whom we declare to be God’s messenger and High Priest.

(MSG) Hebrews 3:1 So, my dear Christian friends, companions in following this call to the heights, take a good hard look at Jesus. He’s the centerpiece of everything we believe, faithful in everything God gave him to do.

This Book is to a Jewish audience, meant to drive home the utter importance of Jesus Christ and what He has accomplished. Something you may not comprehend, or may comprehend is that the audience of this book, Jews, lived every second of their entire lives dependent on gauging their behavior per the Law of Moses, for their very Salvation! This is no light matter! This verse is captured perfectly in the HCSB and the NLT, but the POINT that the MSG paraphrase author captures is spot on in intent, on this verse, in this instance. This verse is specifically stating that Jesus Christ is the center of TRUE FAITH AND PRACTICE! Jesus is the Final Prophet, Apostle, Messenger, High Priest and author of OUR HEAVENLY CALL!
This chapter of Hebrews is about to ensure that the Jews who are new to the faith, understand Just How Centrifugal Jesus Christ is in respects to everything that they had once held dear. Jesus may have found some Pharisees that were hard hearted to Him, but he also makes a statement about the Jewish culture that embraces Him.
Matthew 13:52 “Therefore,” He said to them, “every student of Scripture instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who brings out of his storeroom what is new and what is old.
Let's get to a diagram of this chapter, because it carries a Massively specific point that was critical to convey to Hebrews.
Jesus is central to everything that the Jews understood through shadows and prophetic implications.
Therefore, holy brothers and companions in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession; 2 He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God’s household.
Jesus is the CREATOR. Jesus is greater than Moses.
Moses merely pointed to our ONE TRUE HOPE, JESUS.
3 For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house. 4 Now every house is built by someone, but the One who built everything is God.5 Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future. 6 But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household. And we are that household if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope.
7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear His voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness, 9 where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works 10 for 40 years.
Therefore I was provoked with that generation and said, “They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways.
This following verse is massively Important! This is a Piece of Hebrews 4, which is to come! It is a setup that shows how Moses merely "foreshadowed" Jesus! A severe conversion of understanding is required and the author of Hebrews is supplying it!
11 So I swore in My anger, “They will not enter My rest.
This next verse is a direct warning to Exalt Jesus and simultaneously eradicate Stone Law Obedience and Especially Condemnation of fellow humanity from believing Doctrines.
12 Watch out, brothers, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God.
This is a sharp contrast between placing total faith in Jesus or placing any faith in the STONE LAW!
13 But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception.
14 For we have become companions of the Messiah if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start.
15 As it is said: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
16 For who heard and rebelled? Wasn’t it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses?
17 And who was He provoked with for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
18 And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed?
19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

This is a chapter of scripture that reads so plainly in it's literal reading that it is painful! We have diagrammed this passage, yet it didn't even need it! It went past contrast and straight into one of the most brutally plain readings about the Supremacy of Jesus Christ in all doctrine that it is ALMOST Iron clad. However, I'm going to exegete scripture into this chapter 3 until it's plain meaning flies off the page! This is a critical undertaking!

We are going to hit this chapter with multiple OP's until it's meaning is so painfully clear that it is seared into our Souls! OP Pt. 13a complete. Chapter 3 is going to get some serious exegetical Love!

Our Apostle and High Priest

3 Therefore, holy brothers and companions in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession; 2 He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God’s household. 3 For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house. 4 Now every house is built by someone, but the One who built everything is God. 5 Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future. 6 But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household. And we are that household if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope.

Warning against Unbelief

7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:

Today, if you hear His voice,
8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your fathers tested Me, tried Me,
and saw My works 10 for 40 years.
Therefore I was provoked with that generation
and said, “They always go astray in their hearts,
and they have not known My ways.”
11 So I swore in My anger,
“They will not enter My rest.”
12 Watch out, brothers, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God. 13 But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception. 14 For we have become companions of the Messiah if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start. 15 As it is said:

Today, if you hear His voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.

3 Therefore, brothers whom God has set apart, who share in the call from heaven, think carefully about Yeshua, whom we acknowledge publicly as God’s emissary and as cohen gadol. 2 He was faithful to God, who appointed him; just as

“Moshe was faithful in all God’s house.”
3 But Yeshua deserves more honor than Moshe, just as the builder of the house deserves more honor than the house. 4 For every house is built by someone, but the one who built everything is God.

5 Also, Moshe was faithful in all God’s house, as a servant giving witness to things God would divulge later. 6 But the Messiah, as Son, was faithful over God’s house. And we are that house of his, provided we hold firmly to the courage and confidence inspired by what we hope for.

7 Therefore, as the Ruach HaKodesh says,

“Today, if you hear God’s voice,
8 don’t harden your hearts, as you did in the Bitter Quarrel
on that day in the Wilderness when you put God to the test.

9 Yes, your fathers put me to the test;
they challenged me, and they saw my work for forty years!

10 Therefore, I was disgusted with that generation —
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,
they have not understood how I do things’;

11 in my anger, I swore
that they would not enter my rest.”

12 Watch out, brothers, so that there will not be in any one of you an evil heart lacking trust, which could lead you to apostatize from the living God! 13 Instead, keep exhorting each other every day, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you will become hardened by the deceit of sin. 14 For we have become sharers in the Messiah, provided, however, that we hold firmly to the conviction we began with, right through until the goal is reached.

15 Now where it says,

“Today, if you hear God’s voice,
don’t harden your hearts, as you did in the Bitter Quarrel,”

16 who were the people who, after they heard, quarreled so bitterly? All those whom Moshe brought out of Egypt. 17 And with whom was God disgusted for forty years? Those who sinned — yes, they fell dead in the Wilderness! 18 And to whom was it that he swore that they would not enter his rest? Those who were disobedient. 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of lack of trust.

The Centerpiece of All We Believe

3 1-6 So, my dear Christian friends, companions in following this call to the heights, take a good hard look at Jesus. He’s the centerpiece of everything we believe, faithful in everything God gave him to do. Moses was also faithful, but Jesus gets far more honor. A builder is more valuable than a building any day. Every house has a builder, but the Builder behind them all is God. Moses did a good job in God’s house, but it was all servant work, getting things ready for what was to come. Christ as Son is in charge of the house.

6-11 Now, if we can only keep a firm grip on this bold confidence, we’re the house! That’s why the Holy Spirit says,

Today, please listen;
don’t turn a deaf ear as in “the bitter uprising,”
that time of wilderness testing!
Even though they watched me at work for forty years,
your ancestors refused to let me do it my way;
over and over they tried my patience.
And I was provoked, oh, so provoked!
I said, “They’ll never keep their minds on God;
they refuse to walk down my road.”
Exasperated, I vowed,
“They’ll never get where they’re going,
never be able to sit down and rest.”
12-14 So watch your step, friends. Make sure there’s no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God. For as long as God’s still calling it Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn’t slow down your reflexes. If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started out with, we’re in this with Christ for the long haul.

These words keep ringing in our ears:

Today, please listen;
don’t turn a deaf ear as in the bitter uprising.
15-19 For who were the people who turned a deaf ear? Weren’t they the very ones Moses led out of Egypt? And who was God provoked with for forty years? Wasn’t it those who turned a deaf ear and ended up corpses in the wilderness? And when he swore that they’d never get where they were going, wasn’t he talking to the ones who turned a deaf ear? They never got there because they never listened, never believed.

Jesus Is Greater Than Moses

3 And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God and are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about this Jesus whom we declare to be God’s messenger and High Priest. 2 For he was faithful to God, who appointed him, just as Moses served faithfully when he was entrusted with God’s entire house.

3 But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself. 4 For every house has a builder, but the one who built everything is God.

5 Moses was certainly faithful in God’s house as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later. 6 But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.

7 That is why the Holy Spirit says,

“Today when you hear his voice,
8 don’t harden your hearts
as Israel did when they rebelled,
when they tested me in the wilderness.
9 There your ancestors tested and tried my patience,
even though they saw my miracles for forty years.
10 So I was angry with them, and I said,
‘Their hearts always turn away from me.
They refuse to do what I tell them.’
11 So in my anger I took an oath:
‘They will never enter my place of rest.’”
12 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. 13 You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. 14 For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. 15 Remember what it says:

“Today when you hear his voice,
don’t harden your hearts
as Israel did when they rebelled.”
16 And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness? 18 And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him? 19 So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.

Bro, the MSG is one of the worst Bible translations out there. Stick with ESV, NIV, NKJV or NRSV-CE, brother.

The MSG is just there for quick and dirty comparison. The HCSB, CJB and NLT are also in play. I’m posting off of the HCSB due to its superior volume of manuscript and Translation fragments. Did you read the first OP?

I was helping my Father-in-Law with some flooring work. I am employing as many study techniques as possible for this Hebrews study. It's now at pt.13, but part 3 stretched out to 8 subsections and part 10 stretched out to 3 subsections, so from Hebrews 1 - the beginning of chapter 3, we've gone through 21 actual study OP's and 1 foundational OP that laid the ground work.

In the first OP, I explained this...

We've employed scriptural cross reference, this far, root lingual study, Verse Diagramming, Paleo Hebrew usage, Exegesis of verses that bind to other verses and points, Parallel studying and many other techniques that help ensure that the intended discussion points and spiritual implications of each verse is set up to follow through into the following chapters.

To be sincere, I am trying to show folks that are interested how to use all free and available tools and translations to work through complicated books of scripture. I believe that this is a very important matter that the entire Body of Christ should be capable of. This helps remove the believability of false gospels and dangerous doctrines. Every time I find a verse that takes extra care, within this study, I'm doing my best to explain how to approach it in prayer and personal study to enjoy personal study in reference to showing thyself approved to be a good Gospel workman.

I encourage people to be unafraid of loose paraphrases, because they can be used to get an overall narrative locked in over the course of a chapter before the chapter being worked with, the chapter itself and the following chapter, to ensure biblical context is in place, when using the more accurate translations scripture for scripture.

I would have answered more in depth earlier, but I was afk at the moment.

All Love in the Name of the Author and Finisher of our faith to you, AlexB23, who rests in Him.

P.s. I thought you said this OP series looked boring, anyways. :p

Sorry brother. Do you mean the first OP, as in Hebrews It Pt. 1, or the OP here? The OP here (Hebrews 3) talks about heaven, which is pretty cool. Wait, Hebrews is a precursor to the Gospel in Revelation? This is getting interesting. :)

Reminds me of the Gospel verses from John, about our new home.

John 14:2-4 (NIV): "My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

In John 14:2-4, Jesus is speaking to His disciples about His upcoming departure from this world and preparing a place for them in His Father's house. He emphasizes that this place has many rooms, suggesting that there is enough space for all who believe in Him. Jesus also assures them that He will come back to take them to be with Him, implying that this new home is where they will be reunited with Him. The disciples are already familiar with the concept of the Father's house, as it is referenced throughout the Old Testament [such as Hebrews] as the dwelling place of God.

You have caught on to me! There's quite a bit buried within these OPs. I have unapologetically (well Apologetically), set up to pull every implication possible, out of Hebrews. :p

There's some pretty spicy stuff hidden in links and such forth, throughout the OPs.

How does Moses make Tea? Hebrews it! Part 1 is the place that explains why a general drop in seems boring as all goodness. That's the one that explains why the different translations are present and so forth. Some of the most exciting things can be hidden inside of "boring". :D I'm not ridiculous or anything. I know this OP may not be everybody's "Cup of Tea", but its much more than what it seams. :)

All Love to you, my Brother in Jesus Christ!

This is slowly getting interesting. Also, I like your He-brews-it joke you got there. :) 10/10 humor right here. I like how Jesus appears in more than just the Gospels and Revelations.

Peace be with you, and God bless.

11 So I swore in My anger, “They will not enter My rest.

Heb 3:7-4:11 is about warning new Hebrew Christians, who were apparently considering a return to Judaism, not to apostasize and fail to enter their Sabbath rest in Jesus Christ,' where they rest from their own works to save, and in his work which saves completely.
