The former president and presumptive Republican nominee referred to Texas Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson, who was the White House physician for part of his presidency, as “Ronny Johnson.” The moment came as Trump was questioning Biden’s mental acuity, something he often does on the campaign trail and social media.

Was getting the name wrong on purpose? After all, Ronny Jackson was demoted by the Navy in 2022 for making sexual and denigrating statements about a female subordinate, and alcohol and drug use. Ronny Johnson does not have this mark on his record.

All the more reason why Biden and Trump both should submit to a cognitive test - We are told consistently by the DNC propaganda machine that Biden is as sharp as ever - should be a cake walk for him and help solidify his quickly sinking numbers.

I just now realized that Ronald Regan's claim to fame is he loved to tell jokes and get people to laugh. They called his economic program Reganonimics because no one could understand it because of his Alzheimer's.

Given some other cognitive failures by Trump, this is a fairly minor one. It's just funny because the same statement that he denied his cognitive decline, he provided more evidence for it. And there's more:

You don’t have to be an expert political strategist to know that presidential candidates shouldn’t call any American city “horrible.” That’s particularly true if the city in question is in a battleground state. And it would be lunacy to denounce the site of your upcoming party convention.

Yet that’s exactly what Donald Trump did on Thursday morning:

Trump didn’t publicly bash the largest city in Wisconsin. He made the remark during a closed-door meeting with House Republicans at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C. It’s possible that he trusted his Republican pals to keep his remarks private, but it seems some Judas in the GOP conference leaked them to Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News.

Wisconsin congressmen and GOP officials offered at least four different explanations for Trump’s remarks, ranging from outright denial to claiming he was calling some specific aspect of Milwaukee “horrible,” not the whole city.

Being nominated in a red-red district pretty much guaranteed Jackson's win.

It was actually not very complex. Arthur Laffer's theory was simple; taxes eventually become so oppressive that people won't do business because it doesn't pay and tax revenues will fall, even as the tax rate increases.

The difficulty in using it, was that no one was able to point out where the optimal point would be. Reagan's people assumed that the rate was past the optimal point, and therefore, cutting taxes would increase revenue. But the opposite happened. The Kansas Experiment pretty much nailed down the coffin on supply-side economics.

Since the test is objective, it would be interesting to see the text given to each candidate, after which a panel of qualified physicians (screening out any with an obvious left or right bias) would compare them. I suspect that Trump's people wouldn't agree to that, for the obvious reasons.

The days of Walter Cronkite were, in the words of Jules Fieffer, the days of the "radical middle." They went out of their way to present the middle-of-the road view.

Today, even Fox News or MSNBC news reporters don't lie; they slant the truth. Yes, some networks got socked for lying about some companies and paid many millions for it, but they were commentators, not actual news people.

The scores on the tests would be there for everyone, and the meanings of such scores are not controversial, so it would work.

It would be wrong to seek a "cure." In reality, there are times when conservative ideas are appropriate and there are times when liberal ideas are best. The advantage to having a center-left and a center-right party, is the entire toolkit is available to the voters. That's pretty much what's wrong with American politics today. Was a time when Ronald Reagan and Ted Kennedy could be good friends, liking and respecting each other, even if they disagreed on policy.

That's when "America First" meant "putting America ahead of political differences."

I do not think so, unless they are rare times. When is it ever appropriate for a man to be in a women's dressing room showing off his pkg for everyone there to see? What ever happened to modesty?

To get back to the point. Biden was very good at getting people to work with him. His agenda was to "Bork" the court to get it to conform to his liberal agenda. People can make a deal where I will give you this if you give me that. But sometimes they lock horns and no one will give in one iota. Then no one on either side is able to get anything done.

Donald Trump isn't really a conservative and he sure isn't a liberal. And there was only one woman in there at the time.
