Continued from Hebrews It! (Legal Study, Chapter 2:14) Pt. 10a
Closing Statement form Part 10a"Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part (Partook) of the same, that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death — that is, the devil —
This verse is drawing a parallel between Eve Being deceived then Adam compassionately and lovingly sharing in her consequences as surely as Jesus did the same for US.
Hebrews 2:14 Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death—that is, the Devil—
1 John 3:8 The one who commits sin is of the Devil, for the Devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the Devil’s works.
"The one who commits sin is of the Devil"... this gets mistaken to mean that any person who sins, as in commits a sin, is a damned reprobate, willful sinner that is lake of fire bound. This is a gross error. God's view of "sin" and Satan's view of "sin" are 180 degrees out. Allow me to share a thing. Not one place in scripture does it say that the Pharisee's were terrible at keeping the Law. What scripture reveals is that the Pharisees were bad at keeping GOD's Law (The Law of Christ). Let's start with THE Pharisee of Pharisees and see what he has to say on this matter.
Philippians 3:1 Watch out for “dogs,” watch out for evil workers, watch out for those who mutilate the flesh.
I don't think that many people understand how powerful and condemning this statement is. Paul is BRUTAL in the matter of APOSTASY. Dogs, evil workers, those who mutilate the flesh.
1 Kings 18:22 Then Elijah said to the people, “I am the only remaining prophet of the Lord, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men.
23 Let two bulls be given to us. They are to choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and place it on the wood but not light the fire. I will prepare the other bull and place it on the wood but not light the fire. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of Yahweh. The God who answers with fire, He is God.” All the people answered, “That sounds good.” 25 Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Since you are so numerous, choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first. Then call on the name of your god but don’t light the fire.” 26 So they took the bull that he gave them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, “Baal, answer us!” But there was no sound; no one answered. Then they danced, hobbling around the altar they had made.
A showdown between the One true God and Ba'al is about to occur, curtesy of Elijah and 450 Prophet's of Ba'al. Who is Ba'al? Honestly, Strong's biblical concordance doesn't really help here, because Ba'al is only cited as a "Heathen god". That's just plain void of "who" Ba'al is. Let's go to the New Testament.
Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This Man does not cast out demons, except by Ba‘al-Zibbul the ruler of the demons.”
Now, Strong's is helpful.

The form Βηλζεβουλ is composed of זְבוּל (rabbinical Hebrew for זֶבֶל dung) and בַּעַל, lord of dung or of filth, i. e. of idolatry; cf. Lightfoot on Matthew 12:21. The few who follow Jerome in preferring the form Βηλζεβουβ derive the name from זְבוּב בַּעַל, lord of flies, a false god of the Ekronites (2 Kings 1:2) having the power to drive away troublesome flies, and think the Jews transferred the name to Satan in contempt. Cf. Winers RWB under the word Beelzebub: and J. G. M(üller) in Herzog vol. i., p. 768ff; (BB. Strong's isn't helpful in the sense that it gets it correct in final "Summation", but that it gives us what we needed.
Satan, The prince of evil spirits, Lord of Dung or Filth (Apostasy), Lord of the Flies.
We already had discussed "Apostasy", but let's use our brains for one second.
What do Flies buzz around? DEATH! Ba'al-zibbul. god of Death! Satan was PROUD of his POWER! "the one holding the power of death—that is, the Devil—"
There is a distinct issue with the Pharisees ACCUSING God incarnate of being indwelled by the god of Death.
John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Jesus speaks this TO THE PHARISEES! Brace yourselves, we started this whole discussion starting with Paul revealing that he was a Pharisee of Pharisees.
Philippians 3:— 4 although I once also had confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised the eighth day; of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; regarding the law, a Pharisee; 6 regarding zeal, persecuting the church; regarding the righteousness that is in the law, blameless.
Paul reveals that he is BLAMELESS by TORAH! He literally states in Black and White that he followed Torah to the letter, better than anyone.
Now, note that the above verse about Paul is from this same Philippians 3 that states; "Philippians 3:1 Watch out for “dogs,” watch out for evil workers, watch out for those who mutilate the flesh.
27 At noon Elijah mocked them. He said, “Shout loudly, for he’s a god! Maybe he’s thinking it over; maybe he has wandered away; or maybe he’s on the road. Perhaps he’s sleeping and will wake up!” 28 They shouted loudly, and cut themselves with knives and spears, according to their custom, until blood gushed over them. 29 All afternoon they kept on raving until the offering of the evening sacrifice, but there was no sound; no one answered, no one paid attention.
30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near me.” So all the people approached him. Then he repaired the Lord’s altar that had been torn down: 31 Elijah took 12 stones—according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, “Israel will be your name”— 32 and he built an altar with the stones in the name of Yahweh. Then he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold about four gallons. 33 Next, he arranged the wood, cut up the bull, and placed it on the wood. He said, “Fill four water pots with water and pour it on the offering to be burned and on the wood.” 34 Then he said, “A second time!” and they did it a second time. And then he said, “A third time!” and they did it a third time. 35 So the water ran all around the altar; he even filled the trench with water.
Elijah is having an "Alter" Showdown! Prophets of Ba'al versus himself, a prophet of YHWH. Not only do the prophets of Ba'al fail to be served by Ba'al on thier normal alter, but Elijah has his alter, sacrifice and wood utterly soaked with Water! It should be impossible to consume his saccrifice! He's doused it and dampened it!
36 At the time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet approached the altar and said, “Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that at Your word I have done all these things. 37 Answer me, Lord! Answer me so that this people will know that You, Yahweh, are God and that You have turned their hearts back.” 38 Then Yahweh’s fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 When all the people saw it, they fell facedown and said, “Yahweh, He is God! Yahweh, He is God!”
The prophets of Ba'al showed the devotion of their very carnal selves to Ba'al by literally CUTTING their own flesh to the point of profuse bleeding! Elijah? He has True Faith in YHWH that results in the entire STONE Alter, wood and sacrifice being burned to ash!
3 For we are the circumcision, the ones who serve by the Spirit of God, boast in Christ Jesus, and do not put confidence in the flesh— 4 although I once also had confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised the eighth day; of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; regarding the law, a Pharisee; 6 regarding zeal, persecuting the church; regarding the righteousness that is in the law, blameless.
7 But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ. 8 More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ—the righteousness from God based on faith. 10 My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead.
Paul is suffering literal threat of death for preaching that God Saves mankind COMPLETELY if only each person will turn to Jesus as the Finisher and Completion of their Faith! Paul has CHANGED HIS MIND that the Law of Stone Sin and Death can save. Paul has relinquished any faith in the works of his human flesh, good or bad as having any baring on his salvation. He did the only thing that he can do to be saved. He Believed that Jesus was THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE!
