• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello,
I'm bothered by a lack of zest for life in my own soul. Nothing feels meaningful or fulfilling. I recently had a spiritual experience but I cannot discern whether or not it was from God or if it was the Devil manipulating me. I don't see a clear purpose or direction with my life. I'm having a hard time connecting with God in prayer. Does the Bible or God speak on the topic of losing your zest/will to live?

This may sound strange to you, but eat meat and animal fat and stop eating plant products (they contain a lot of hormonal disruptors).

And you will see if it helps you or not. Many people's mental issues are just nutritional issues.

Also, try enough sunshine (or D3 supplement) and move, do some sport.

Hello,
I'm bothered by a lack of zest for life in my own soul.
I know this feeling well! I spent 7 years of my life waking up and going to sleep with that very feeling in the very pit of my soul.

Nothing feels meaningful or fulfilling.
This is Sorrow and Depression. How long have you been experiencing it?

I recently had a spiritual experience but I cannot discern whether or not it was from God or if it was the Devil manipulating me.
Did it draw you closer to Jesus and encourage you to Rely on Jesus?

I don't see a clear purpose or direction with my life.
This is why scripture speaks of wandering in the wilderness. There are times in our life that feel like a desolate desert. Is this a fair statement?

I'm having a hard time connecting with God in prayer.
This is going to sound cliché, but read one chapter of proverbs a day and look for a Psalm were David is expressing the very feelings that you are experiencing. This will help! The book of Psalms is a severely underappreciated book, for what it contains. It can lift the soul!

Does the Bible or God speak on the topic of losing your zest/will to live?
Ecclesiastes and Psalms! Sometimes, the more wisdom that the Holy Spirit of Christ imparts to us, the deeper the sorrow that sets within us. This world is an experience of cognitive dissonance the more we understand how far from Love that it has collectively fallen.

I will answer you back if you have any questions or statements. I can even go into active listening mode where you can just bounce thoughts off of me and I simply repeat what you have expressed, to simply get you outside of your own head.

All Love in Jesus Christ to you, sibling in Him.

How did you overcome it? Did God heal you?
This is Sorrow and Depression. How long have you been experiencing it?
8-9 years. I was quite depressed in my teens but never clinically depressed, in my estimation.
Did it draw you closer to Jesus and encourage you to Rely on Jesus?
Not at all.

Yes.

I'm trying, with few results.

Fair enough.

Thanks a lot, sorry for taking a long time to answer.

I don't believe this is my issue.

Go and do for Him through others! There are more unfortunate than you out there. Go find them and help them! Matthew 25. With depression, there are 3 paths...you can put it on yourself, you can put it on others OR you can do neither and help others.
