A Roman Catholic parish in Kentucky is offering scheduled blessings for same-sex couples despite the Vatican's recent directive that such blessings should be spontaneous.

Historic St. Paul Catholic Church in downtown Lexington is offering such a service to any couple who reaches out to Father Richard Watson, according to the parish website, which was first reported by the Catholic News Agency.

The arrangement appears to go against the Vatican's controversial December 2023 "Fiducia Supplicans" guidance, which caused an uproar within the Catholic Church globally for permitting "spontaneous blessings" for same-sex couples.

This was totally to be expected. Just like it was totally expected that James Martin would have an 'impromptu' blessing and somehow the NYTimes photographers would just spontaneously be there to record the event.

Note that this in the diocese in Kentucky blessed (backwards) by the presence of bishop Stowe.

It's all garbage. The people in Alexandria when Arius controlled that See would walk into the desert on Sundays to be with St. Anthony and the Desert Fathers rather than endure Arian liturgies. Likewise we have to be willing to travel if our pontiff gives us a bad bishop or our bishop gives us bad priests. I'm not saying those bishops or priests are invalid, just that we should avoid them when possible.
