Dr. Elizabeth Landsverk, dementia and Alzheimer's disease expert, joins David Parkman to discuss cognitive concerns about former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden with regard to their age and brain function.

Harry Segal, clinical psychologist and Senior Lecturer in the Psychology Department at Cornell University and the Department of Psychiatry at Cornell Weill Medical School, joins David to compare and contrast what is being labeled "cognitive decline" with regard to both Donald Trump and President Joe Biden

Age limited for ALL.

It's absurd that this is the "Best America has to offer it's citizenry". The political establishment should be utterly ashamed of itself to create a culture (by design) of this disposition.

My mom had a bad case of dementia. Over the course of five years, she went from being able to mostly take care of herself to being unable to do anything without help before she died.

The first real sign was that she lost the ability to cook. Not that she forgot how, she came to think that if the food didn't taste just right, it needed to be cooked more, so she way overcooked everything. She even wanted me to keep cooking frozen meals, not because there were cool spots, but because the taste seemed a little off to her.

The odd fixations were more prominent than the memory loss at first. She became overly critical of drivers on the road and characters on TV. She got very disturbed every time she saw smoke coming out of neighbors' chimneys, thinking there was way too much of it, when it was just a normal amount.

Later on, she started having problems remembering ordinary words and wouldn't be able to finish many of her sentences. She couldn't even give me hints on which words she had forgotten. Her short-term memory eroded. She stopped taking care of her hygiene on her own, because she thought she had already done it. Things just steadily got worse, and she never realized that she was having problems.

If Trump is already showing very noticeable signs of dementia, then he probably wouldn't last long in office. But I wouldn't vote against him because of that. I already have far more reasons to vote against him.

If the presidential debate goes off as planned, we should all pay close attention to how the candidates compose themselves. Look at how many gaffes Biden pulls off and see if Trump is forgetting words.

With these two, I'm kind of expecting a train wreck.

Older folks lose taste buds and can't enjoy a salt flavor. But they like sugar! My mom was losing weight badly once she was in her upper 80s. All she wanted was sweets. I finally started adding sugar to things like fries and spaghetti and mac n' cheese, and she ate better. I didn't like it much but she did.

Yes, my mom lost her appetite more and more, and I hear that's a common problem with dementia.

Eventually, for her own safety, I had to put my mom in a memory unit. She did well there. The problem I had is that she would be up for a couple days at a time and very confused. She did not know me. She thought she had to go outside and "find the kids" even though she was in a nightgown and it was less than 40 outside and it was 1 am in the morning. I couldn't keep a good enough eye on her. She almost got outside twice before I moved her, and I had to do more than lock the main door.

If you insist on caring for her up to the end, get respite care. Pay for someone to come in and watch her if it gets hard. I waited too long.

My mom did fine after she was in the memory unit. She often did not know who I was, but the last two times I saw her, she recognized me and she was always in good condition. She went to sleep after breakfast one morning, hugging her stuffed, but animated cat, and peacefully passed.
If no one has suggested it, you might get her a stuffed dog or cat like this. My mom was kept busy caring for the baby cat. :)

My grandmother died when I was 9 and she was 88.

According to the doctors, her brain was an enigma.

She thought she was a teenager and my late grandfather would ask her on a date, she missed her parents for not seeing them so long, she cried thinking my grandfather left her even though he died back in 1996.

She knew all of her eleven children’s names, but was surprised when she learned she gave birth to eleven children.

My sympathies for anyone who had to endure this.

I can only pray and hope the best for Trump and Biden- and our nation.

I pray and hope for a cure to Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

I remember when people said that Bush junior had Dementia when he was in office because of his way of speech.

What's crazy is that Bush is the same age as Trump and four years younger than Biden.

People also said that Trump had Dementia when he was running back in 2016.

I'm not a fan of Dementia rumors, but I am in favor of age limits, as well as standardised health tests for any candidate and sitting politician above a certain age.

Last night I listened to all three posted videos by highly respected medical professionals. I would not say that they were trying to spread dementia rumors.
Mr. Trump could end the dementia rumors (or confirm them) by showing an MRI and taking a 4-5 hour neurological test. Because he has been notoriously secretive about his health, and every medical "report" has been spotty and tainted, his behavior raises suspicion.
If true, Mr. Trump's dementia has been masked because of his other probable psychiatric problems such as narcissism, short attention span, hair trigger temper.
Of course, President Biden should submit to the same tests, but like the psychiatrists I don't have the same concerns.
Another cause for concern: In her book, Mary Trump mentioned Trump's father's dementia in the final years of his life.
WAPO had an article on the senior Trump's dementia on 3/24 but ut's behind a firewall.

It might be better if the President is “impaired”, the government is very able to function so long as the person holding office can (still) sign their name to documents.

Biden handled state of the Union ok. Watch for sundowners if it is in the evening. Either way, we need a VP debate.

You would think that someone somewhere would come up with something better then the leftover they want to serve us. My dad would vote for whoever did the least. He felt that the less they do the better off we are.
