Hogan provokes ire within Trumpworld: ‘You just ended your campaign’

“Regardless of the result, I urge all Americans to respect the verdict and the legal process,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter. “… We must reaffirm what has made this nation great: the rule of law.”

“You just ended your campaign,” Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to Trump’s presidential campaign, posted on X, moments after Hogan released his statement.

“From a political standpoint, it makes no sense to issue a statement that can be considered by us to be a criticism. It was stupid,” LaCivita said. “He didn’t have to say anything. Say, ‘It’s a sad day in America.’ But no, he had to make a point. If he’s going to make his point, we’re going to make our point. You take a shot, you’re going to get a shot back. That’s how it works in politics.”

Dan Cox, the Maryland Republican who beat Hogan’s handpicked successor in the 2022 primary race for governor, called on the state GOP to censure Hogan “for his despicable and disgusting announcement.” [emphasis added]

Respecting the rule of law and the decision of a jury is now "despicable and disgusting".

I think the statement from Mr LaCivita will have the exact same impact on Hogan's political career as this thread will have. None. There's a reason people respect Mr Hogan and his statement urging trumpers to respect the rule of law should reinforce his support if it has any impact at all. Voters respect level headed leadership too. Not all voters are trumpers.

Are we to "respect" the current administration when they spit in the face of a supreme court decision? ie ... Student debt relief as being unconstitutional?

The legal process is broken in many ways .... many laws are being ignored (not enforced and/or not prosecuted)

We live in uncertain times because of all the chaos going on and there is more allowance for "skirting" the rule of law on many levels now than there has ever been in history ... either that ... or maybe we are made more aware of it because of more information/ideas being available through the internet.

Juries have been known to get convict wrongly that's a fact .... did it happen this time? Who knows ... maybe .... maybe not. ???

The administration tried to do the loan forgiveness [a certain way, I didn’t really follow this] SCOTUS said, “no, and here’s why”; so the administration tries again but tailors its Order to conform to the High Courts’s decision and this new attempt is adjudicated anew.

This is normal…remember when President Trump tried to ban all immigrants from certain countries?
SCOTUS said, “no, and here’s why”, so the Trump Administration wrote a new EO that conformed to the decision and it held the second time.

God bless Larry Hogan for speaking the truth in this time of divisiveness. :) We must respect the judicial system.

Rule of law is way, way broken. Just look at immigration. Look at how Federal law is ignored in respect to Marijuana. Look at disparities in sentencing. look at how if you really want a jury trial you have to risk years in prison to exercise that right. Even not-guilty people plea down to avoid even the chance of long term incarceration. Private versus public defenders are another sticky point. So many things are wrong it is nothing like it is supposed to be. Hope everyone gets a wake-up call from this.

We agree on this. While I will never use drugs nor condone their recreational usage, it is sad how we put folks in jail for pot. Other countries allow it legally.

Yes incarcerations for pot are likely just a waste of money, unless it is huge amounts and distribution. The problem is that states that have legalized pot are violating Federal law, but few care. How is it that some laws are ignored, other laws are only used for selective prosecutions? Immigration laws to are often ignored, with the Federal government even threatening states to make them also ignore Federal laws. I could give a hundred examples of the legal system being broken. OJ Simpson for instance was found not guilty for murder. So when he tried to take some memorabilia back in a robbery they also charged him with kidnapping. In other words, they really wanted payback so he served more time for the robbery than just about anyone in history. The sentence was set at 33 years. The average sentence for robbery nationwide was 71 months for a first offender. https://www.ussc.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/research-and-publications/quick-facts/Robbery_FY18.pdf
So in reality it seems the idea that OJ was guilty of murder was brought into the courtroom and destroyed the rule of law. That is selective prosecution. Was Trump treated fairly? Hillary and Biden both mishandled documents, yet Trump has 40 counts of that too that he is indicted for. As to this trial we will see if they really care about justice or if they simply wanted trump off the campaign trail and convicted as a felon. If he loses the election it will likely all go away. If he wins they likely will step up the pressure.

Both Hillary (email scandal) and Trump (document theft) deserve prison.

Yes, if given a fair trail and the sentence warrants prison. Biden too I suppose but he won't even release the exact version of the tapes where he was interviewed about his document mishandling. Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

RNC co-chair Lara Trump attacks Hogan for calling for respect for legal process

Lara Trump doesn’t commit to having the Republican National Committee give money to Hogan’s run for Senate.

Lara Trump — who was recently named co-chair of the party, alongside Michael Whatley — said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Hogan “doesn’t deserve the respect” of any Republican for his comments.

Get with the program, GOP candidates. Either attack the rule of law, or no money for you.

Appeals rarely exonerate felons. At best they order a new trial because of procedural errors--if any are found.
Can you imagine twelve jurors in a retrial finding him guilty for 34 crimes again?
Pass the popcorn.

It makes more sense in light of what a Christian here explained to me: that Trump is "a messiah", anointed by God.

I get it that some people are disinclined to respect the law if it seems to be set against the will of God.
