The present truth.

Col. 1:26-28 (NKJV)
26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

Peter was not talking about salvation being extended to the gentiles, that was Pauls ministry. Peter was an apostle to the Jews & was talking about the truth that Jesus the Jewish Messiah & lamb of God had come & what that meant for Jews putting their faith in Him.

Excellent point, Peter was addressing Jews and I guess that you're correct that that would have Peter's intention. Thank you for the correction!

I would say though, that the basics of the message, as I see it, was that the "present truth" was the Gospel message - which does go to both Jew and Gentile. I do not think that the term "present message" was anything cryptic for that particular time.

The Gospel given by Christ, the Messiah, the son of GOD who IS one with GOD.

It is really easy to understand when you read it in context.

2 Peter 2:
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the [c]corruption that is in the world through lust.
