Heck, even Snopes had to concede that Biden checked his watch at least twice during those transfers.

A POTUS checks his watch? Oh my...

Serously, there is no defense of Trump on this point.
We all saw and heard his disdain for John McCain's POW status.

He believes service to country is for fools.

The Defense officials also confirmed to The AP reporting in The Atlantic that Trump on Memorial Day 2017 had gone with his chief of staff, John Kelly, to visit the Arlington Cemetery gravesite of Kelly’s son, Robert, who was killed in 2010 in Afghanistan, and said to Kelly: “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?”

No, a narcissists would not get it....ever.

It should just be expected that something as benign as checking your watch is red meat for critics of the president.
That barrel bottom must be paper thin by now?

Yeah, those darn mothers whose sons sacrificed their lives for our country. Always scraping the bottom of the barrel, those bereaved parents are...

Three days after the bombing, the remains of all 13 service members arrived at Dover Air Force Base for the dignified transfer ceremony, where President Joe Biden was there to greet the families. Instead of feeling comforted, all three mothers described feeling disrespected.
"The administration didn't seem to know our story," Shamblin said. "They didn't seem to know Nicole's name, our names. People from the military certainly knew our story, Nicole's name, our names. And that was expressed to us in a way that felt very genuine and loving. But when it came to the people in suits, it felt disingenuous and hollow."
"First, he called me 'Ms. Lopez,' and I was not 'Mrs. Lopez,'" Briseno said. "And he just talk[ed] about his son and said how much he knows or he understand how we feel because he lost his kid and he didn't feel -- he didn't know how we feel because he was there with his son when he passed. We didn't have the privilege. We received our kids in a casket."
Briseno added that she felt the president made the encounter "all about him."
"We had decided as a family that we would not meet with the president, so we were actually in a room on the side," Barnett emphasized.
The family ultimately decided to go onto the tarmac, where Biden checked his watch multiple times.
"It was just total disrespect," Barnett said. "It's beyond disgusting."

Yeah, outrage, we get it.

Yeah, outrage, we get it.

No, I don't think you do.

Multiple posters, including yourself, have stated that it's only critics of the president that are upset about him checking his watch multiple times. But that completely ignores the fact that it was the parents of these fallen soldiers that felt disrespected not only by the President checking his watch, but by not even knowing their names.

Ah well. I'm sure the well-meaning, forgetful old guy meant well.

There is not a soldier lying in Arlington National Cemetery whose boots Trump would be worthy to polish.
From dodging the draft to calling McCain a loser for getting caught, it's always about him.
I pray that in the future we will elect presidents who are worthy of the sacrifice they made.

Were the outraged families generally Biden supporters/voters before they were outraged?

Why does that matter? These families lost children. I didn't realize that we were only to take into account the outrage of bereaved parents who have the correct political ideology.

This is ridiculous. He looked at his watch? Smart watches have many functions. They sync with health devices to monitor blood sugar, heart functions and more. They have phone alerts, potentially from national security officers. Glancing at a watch does not indicate inattention or distrspect.
I think that smart watches could even be programmed to set up alerts for people who, let's say, fall asleep in court.

This is ridiculous. He looked at his watch?

Multiple times.

Smart watches have many functions.

I'm not sure a well-meaning, forgetful guy like President Biden would know how to use a smart watch.

Anyway, according to this article, Biden isn't allowed to wear a smart watch during his Presidency.

Apple Watch

While this watch is certainly far from the flashiest timepiece in Joe Biden’s personal collection, it is one of the more interesting ones – at least it will be for the next four years, because Joe Biden will not be allowed to wear it at all. Why is this the case?
Like many fitness watches, the Apple Watch is capable of electronically tracking your location in real-time. Because of this, it is a major security issue for the President to be wearing one, especially if he is traveling somewhere that is not supposed to be public knowledge. As a result, the Secret Service will not allow him to wear the watch during his tenure as President.

Glancing at a watch does not indicate inattention or distrspect.

Perhaps, perhaps not. But not knowing the name of the mother whose son you're ostensibly there to honor does.

"First, he called me 'Ms. Lopez,' and I was not 'Mrs. Lopez,'" Briseno said. "

That debate ended over 40 years ago. It's been "Ms" for every woman in the government without an official title since the 80s.

Unless, of course, your last name isn't Sanchez at all. Then it doesn't matter if you say "Ms" or "Mrs". It's all wrong if your last name is Briseno.

An old man getting a name wrong is nowhere near, in this universe or any other, the intentional, repeated public contempt Trump has heaped upon the military dead, imprisoned, and disabled.

Yes, Trump is bad.

But when you're there to honor a mother's deceased son, the least you can do is get her name right. I mean, I'm going to take her word for it that she felt disrespected by that.

This whataboutism facsciantes me. You know, it's possible for Trump to be a buffoon AND Biden to have disrespected the parents of fallen soldiers. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Well, I'm in my 70s, and I do occasionally forget someone's name without the intent of being disrespectful, so it's not "whataboutism." Or do you believe Biden intentionally called her by the wrong name?

Intent matters.

Yeah, it's a comparison between Trump and Biden when we're talking solely about Biden's conduct. That's the definition of "whataboutism".

I'm only in my 40s. but I also occasionally forget someone's name without the intent of being disrespectful. That's not really the point.

This wasn't an off the cuff meeting. It was planned well in advance. Biden was there to honor these fallen soldiers and pay his respects to the families. I'm sure he had a briefing beforehand that told him everything he needed to know, including people's names. Perhaps this is an example of his memory being so bad that he can't remember what he read just a few minutes or hours earlier.

I won't dispute that Biden is too doggoned old to be president of the United States. And so is Trump.
