Out of curiosity I watched "NCIS - Sydney" tonight for the first time. The introduction had a shark coughing up a former US Navy Seal's arm in a tidal swimming pool.

I was sceptical about a shark being swept into a tidal swimming pool, but apparently it did happen once at least. Mind you it was a juvenile and wouldn't have been big enough to swallow an arm.

Part of the reason I watched the show was that I knew there really had been a "Shark Arm Murder" case involving a boxer murdered by a criminal associate or associates in Sydney, but it was a long time ago in 1935.

No doubt the scriptwriters picked up on the old case and used it to underpin an NCIS episode.

Back in Feb of 2009 a navy diver lost an arm to a shark in Sydney harbour. We all thought - wow, we're going to stay out of the harbour and stay in the ocean for a while (the nearest beach in the harbour to me is called Shark Beach and there's a small island next to it called Shark Island): Three things I know about being attacked by a shark

Then a couple of days later, a surfer lost a hand to a shark at Bondi, which is where I live: Bondi shark victim loses hand

I kept out of the water for a while...

I am not Aussie. Is this show any good? Might want to try it out. :)

It was Okay. It was typical NCIS fare with a bit of cultural bantering between US & Aussies. The difference is that it is set around Sydney, not US locations.
Nice, I'll try to watch it, for the Aussie accents, and cos Australia makes for better television. Anyways, I will be back in a few hours. In a few month's I'll borrow the DVDs from the library and try out NCIS: Sydney after completing Deep Space 9.

800 Words was a good show from AU: 800 Words (TV Series 2015–2018) ⭐ 8.0 | Comedy, Drama, Family
Same with McLeod's Daughters: McLeod's Daughters - Wikipedia

Don't know if you could access 'Mystery Road'. Series on Aussie TV a few years ago. Our neighbours were the producers. Won quite a few awards. Strongly recommended. Very Australian.

Ooh, I am in luck. The library has the series on DVD. You are joking, that your neighbors produced the show? Wow, what a small world, man. Bro, small world. :) Yes, I had to say that twice.

If you watch it I don't think you'll be disappointed. And yeah, both husband and wife were involved in film and TV for a long time (I think she was high up in some area of the BBC at one point) and they decided to set up a production company.

I was up on the roof of my deck some time back, fixing a leak. And a guy who was in the garden next door called out if I wanted some help. Hey, no worries, I'm all good. We chatted for a couple of minutes. He seemed familiar. Then my wife went crazy - it was Aaron Pederson, the dude who stars in that series. Strong and silent type. The camera just loves him. As does my wife...

Wow, that is so cool. It is good that you have met a man from television. It is good that he offered help to you when you were fixing your roof. He seems like a genuine person, willing to help others. Not a lot of Hollywood types (not referring to the city, but movie actors in general) seem to help others, so Mr. Pedersen seems like a good man.

And yes, this Aaron Pedersen guy is good looking, in a masculine, Aussie type of way. :)

Hmmm ... name dropping eh?

A few years ago there was a mini-series for TV called 'Secrets and Lies'. The producers used a house in Quandong Street, Ashgrove, Brisbane as their home location.

When I was a kid I sometimes used to walk along Quandong Street as there was a water hole in the local creek just off Quandong Street and we'd go swimming there.

Some of the scene locations had a familiar ring about them as I'd grown up in a similar environment. Even the droning locust and cricket sounds in the night scenes were reminiscent of my own home address which was about a mile away but near the same creek (Enoggera Creek).

Not as noteworthy as having a movie star offering to help you with a leak on your roof though.

My only distant link to Hollywood. Or the Aussie equivalent. If the neighbours ever invite us to one of their wrap parties then I'll be dining out on it for years...
