  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Happy" Memorial Day?

Two former Presidents tweet out messages to America about Memorial Day.

As an outsider I've always been intrigued by how other countries celebrate their fallen soldiers. I can say in Canada, Remembrance Day is a solemn day. It is meant to show humble respect, admiration and gratitude to the soldiers who have fought for us AND the soldiers who have perished. This has been the Canadian way since....I dunno, before I was born, for sure.

On Memorial Day in the US, two US Presidents tweeted about Memorial Day.

Who do you think did a better job at honouring the legacy of the fallen soldiers from your country? Which of these two presidents cares first and foremost for their country?

The first sentence from each post say it all.
One writes a fitting tribute to those who sacrificed all in service to his country.
The other writes a screed full of selfish recrimination.

As a teacher, I would also point out Trump's abhorrent writing quality. I mean, how many sentences? Where is the punctuation?

It would remind me of writing done by someone high on some kinda stimulant.

The difference is that while the one guy is virtue signalling after 8 years of presiding over foreign wars, the other is giving the masses the prolefeed they crave.

I see little admirable in either.

I don't think Obama is virtue signalling. In his post he recognizes that his decisions caused "heartbreak" and had hard effects on families. I think if it was ONLY the second paragraph, I could understand virtue signalling, but at least he OWNs it, at least a little.

I see little admirable in either.
Are they equally distasteful to you as well?

Oh no, Trump wins the distasteful part hands down.

This is soooooo stupid.

That family gave up NOTHING and frankly, is trying to grift people.

How can people think like that?
Agreed 100%. For the question (How can people think like that?), Trump brainwashed people, similar to the wicked man in Psalm 10:2-7.

Psalm 10:2-7 (NIV): "In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. He boasts about the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord. In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. His ways are always prosperous; your laws are rejected by him; he sneers at all his enemies. He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.” He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.” His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.

To the right, Trump is a weapon against the left. There's no morality. No virtues. No pretense. He is a weapon to be pointed and used by his followers against their perceived enemies.

Hillary was right.
His supporters prove it every day.

I would say whichever one had less US soldiers die while they were POTUS.

One would need to own up to the deaths on his watch first:

Published May 17, 2022
While speaking in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, Trump claimed while discussing the U.S. war in Afghanistan: “When I was in charge, in 18 months, we didn’t lose one American soldier.”

“In 18 months in Afghanistan, we lost nobody,” he later emphasized after mentioning that day’s deadly shooting in Buffalo, New York, in which a white gunman killed 10 Black people in a supermarket.

That is a false statement.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. There is no year-and-half time frame under Trump’s presidency alone that no combat deaths among U.S. service members were reported.

To be fair, they both spent their entire time as President presiding over foreign wars.
