It started out that you had to be terminally ill with a short time to live, now they're killing some healthy lady (with depression) because she wants to die. Where will it end? Will the pressure to have yourself killed be applied so you won't be a "burden on society"?

As a citizen from that country, it's sad indeed. Pressure to people like that is not applied, but e.g. in nursing homes, elderly sick without recovery prospects who are on tube feeding sometimes are withheld food to not unnecessarily 'lengthen' life ...

These practices also occur in Belgium among others; even for teenagers, but only in the case of unbearable (physical) suffering ..

I agree. At the end of the article, she said she felt peace. If she can feel peace, she's not a lost cause.

Even teenagers? How awful! When my husband was sick I did everything humanly possible to keep him going. I had to fight with hospital staff. I called one doctor a ghoul because she wouldn't stop asking me if I wanted to "pull the plug". (He became well enough to return home and live for another 2 years without too many problems.)

True. The world is coming to an end, if not in the 2020s, then in the next century or so, as what is bad will be called good, and what is good will be called bad (Isaiah 5:20).

if someone wants to end their own life let 'em. Where their soul resides after is up to God. Secular laws are not based on religion.

Not only that but who is there to punish for the "crime?" That is the concern, right? They do something sinful but won't be around to face an Earthly punishment too bad, we could have put another person in prison.

That is true, the hour we will not know, though we are really close to the end compared to during Roman Empire times.

The AI on my computer made a case for palliative care, instead of murder, when writing a law for a country on a fictional world.

Bro, please read this verse about the end times. We are both Christian, my friend. We should not sanction government assisted murder.

This is a warning about "Cafeteria Christianity", straight out of the Bible. Let us not be these lukewarm Christians. We must rebuke the lukewarm. In Revelation 3:15-16, Jesus warns the church in Laodicea for being lukewarm in their faith.

DateMay 12, 2024 | Cafeteria Christianity
Verse2 Timothy 4:3 (ESV): "For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions"
Explanation2 Timothy 4:3 is a warning from the Apostle Paul to Timothy about the end days and the attitude of people towards sound teaching. The passage suggests that as the end times approach, people will become increasingly unwilling to hear and accept the truth, instead gravitating towards teachings that cater to their own desires and passions.
This verse relates to the concept of Cafeteria Christianity, where people pick and choose which teachings they want to follow based on their personal preferences or desires, rather than submitting themselves to the whole truth of the gospel. The passage suggests that this tendency will become more prevalent as the end times approach.

Using the analogy of a buffet, we can understand this concept further. Onions represent the truth, which can be stinging or uncomfortable at times. Firm steak represents the reading and understanding of the gospel, which can be challenging and requires effort. Nutrient-rich vegetables such as spinach represent the growth in faith that comes from embracing the truth and applying it to our lives.

On the other hand, avoiding fish represents disregard for Jesus, who is the source of our salvation and the foundation of our faith. Consuming excessive amounts of sweet junk food or desserts such as cake represent the ungodly teachings that cater to humanity's selfish desires, rather than leading us towards a deeper relationship with God.

Correction; in Belgium teenagers will not obtain permission for euthanasia in case of only mental suffering, but only in case of unbearable physical suffering .. In Belgium just over 3% of all deaths are caused by euthanasia.

Imagine if 3% of the world population was wiped out. That would be 240 million people wiped out. So, that 3% better drop to 0%.

Let us not be a people who force Christian laws on the non-Christians. Otherwise, what brand of Christianity would be best suited to rule a secular society/ God doesn't o politics or government laws? If you believe that suicide is wrong, don't commit suicide.

9 out of 10 times, they use their own drugs by saving up their morphine doses until they have a lethal amount. I wouldn't expect a Christian to participate in this process but we live in a society that is not ruled by Christian law but secular democratic law.

Well, I rebuke you, and your support for these evil ways, and pray that Jesus may open your mind and spirit to the true calling of the Gospel. We are both Catholic my friend, so we must support pro-life causes. This rebuke is not to hurt, but to show Christ's love.

1 Timothy 5:20 (ESV): "As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear."

Galatians 2:11-14 (ESV): "But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, ‘If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?’"

The whole thing is strange and sad. I wonder if she really wants to die. She says: "In the three and a half years this has taken, I’ve never hesitated about my decision." Is this someone truly intent on killing themselves? Maybe it is a cry for help? I'm afraid that now it is sanctioned by the state, some of the barriers that have kept her alive so far are removed. Are they inadvertently sending the message "You're right it is hopeless, you should die." Pray for her.

Like I said earlier, she said she was feeling peace. So, she's capable of having a good feeling. I agree with you that it may be a cry for help.

I don't remember sayng that I support any evil ways. What I am trying to explain to you is that we live in a Constitutional Republic whose representatives are voted for by the democratic process. The Constituton specifically states that there is no national religion and the laws of the land are made by the people. If you want to live in a Christian theocracy, you will need to conquer a soverign nation in the name of Jesus Christ. There are many examples of theocracy in the world like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan to name a few. Their laws are based on the Quran rather than the people's will.

It has nothing to do with what morals I desire people to live by. The point is, with the government we have in the USA, religion is not the basis upon which we make our laws but the will of the people. No one is stopping you or me from living by Christian values. At the same with the democracy we have we also can't force others to live by our values. There are laws which support Christianity and Democracy like the laws against theft and murder. It's just that when there is no victim, there is no crime. Except when it comes to selling drugs. There is a victimless crime that our democracy prosecutes.

Man, stand up for yourself. Stand up for Christians. If we do not, then we are lukewarm, and will be spat out by Christ.
