U.S. says Russia launched a space weapon in the path of an American satellite

The Kremlin accused Washington of disinformation Wednesday, while it conducted exercises to simulate the use of tactical nuclear weapons in a likely warning to the West over Ukraine.

In a briefing Tuesday, Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said the U.S. has assessed that Moscow deployed the satellite May 16. “Russia launched a satellite into low Earth orbit that we assess is likely a counterspace weapon, presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit,” he said.

It was launched into the same orbit as a U.S. government satellite, he said, without elaborating on whether the American satellite was in any immediate danger.

Wow, welcome to Star Wars. Hopefully the Kremlin stops this nonsense, as this could escalate the global tensions. Hopefully, we can get some lasers to remove the Russian satellite from space, maybe melt the solar panels on the Russian satellite.

By the way, an anti-satellite missile was tested in 2021 (the first ever ground-to-space weapon), by, you guessed it, the Russians: Russian anti-satellite missile test was the first of its kind

For fun, this guy explains how space combat in sci-fi TV and movies are a little unrealistic (5 minutes)
