  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should foreign donors pump dark money into US elections?

Honestly, no foreign donor should give money to the US elections, as that would be tampering with the US election process. Anyone caught receiving foreign funds should pay a fine equal to the funds + a certain percentage of their own wealth. Also, for a fair election, US donors should donate an equal amount to each candidate, up to say, $5M. Joe Biden, Chris Christie, Nikki Haley, and even Donald Trump should never have more donation money compared to each other. All donation money could be pooled in a fund and spread evenly between all the candidates. This is just my opinion.

Here is an NPR article explaining that campaign funding can get expensive for Americans: https://www.npr.org/2023/11/01/1205...onations-election-fec-fundraising-ad-spending

Just oppose "certain" donations for certain purposes? How hypocritical.
Why should *any* billionaire be allowed to pump gobs of "dark" money into campaigns? At least everything should be fully open for all to see where the money comes from and where it flows.

Alex is right in post #2 about prohibiting all (non-resident) foreigners from contributing. (Aren't they already? I thought they were.)

Yeah, Federal law prohibits all non-resident foreigners from contributing to elections, both directly and indirectly: Foreign nationals - FEC.gov
