Donald Trump used
his campaign event in Michigan on Tuesday to denounce what he called “Biden’s border bloodbath,” zeroing in on the case of a young woman killed by someone immigration officials say had entered the country illegally.
“She lit up that room, and I’ve heard that from so many people,” Trump said at a news conference in the hometown of the 25-year-old victim, Ruby Garcia. “I spoke to some of her family.”
But Garcia’s sister, acting as a family spokeswoman, said Tuesday that Trump and his campaign have not contacted her or other immediate relatives — and rebuked the GOP presidential nominee’s effort to make the case part of his calls for a border crackdown.
That was an ignorant thing to do on his part.
It looks like late-stage capitalism takes the win, as this article is locked behind a paywall*. But yeah, Trump lacks empathy and has little to no basic Christian values. He has more bigoted values, so we must pray for him, that he changes his ways. Now, I do not like either candidate, as we need some fresh ones, but Biden is by far the better one here, even though he messes up sometimes. Any other individual would try and console the victim's family. Also, we must pray for the victims and their families.
*Managed to break past the paywall using a paywall bypass website, as my paywall bypass plugin needs to be updated. Here is a summary of the article:
The article by Hannah Knowles, published on April 3, 2024, reports on Former President Donald Trump's comments at a campaign event in Michigan regarding the case of Ruby Garcia, a young woman who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Brandon Ortiz-Vite, who authorities claim entered the country illegally. Trump claimed to have spoken with Garcia's family at the event, but her sister, Mavi Garcia, stated that no contact had been made by Trump or his campaign.
Mavi Garcia also criticized Trump for focusing on illegal immigrants in connection to her sister's death rather than addressing the issue of domestic violence. The Trump campaign did not comment on the matter and Trump failed to mention speaking with Garcia's family during a later rally in Wisconsin.
Trump has made immigration a central issue in his campaign for a second term, linking it to crime and speaking at length about high-profile killings attributed to undocumented immigrants. In this instance, Ortiz-Vite had a previous arrest record and was deported in 2020 before returning to the United States. Democrats have emphasized that undocumented immigrants do not commit more crime than legal residents and framed Garcia's case as a testament to the dangers of domestic violence.
In contrast, family members of Laken Riley, another young woman killed in Georgia, have embraced Trump and criticized President Joe Biden for fumbling her name during the State of the Union address. The defendant in Riley's case, Jose Ibarra, is a man from Venezuela who entered the United States illegally in 2022 and has been charged with murder.
Trump highlighted both Garcia's and Riley's cases at the Grand Rapids event, where he met with law enforcement and spoke on immigration. He reiterated his promises to curtail undocumented immigration and carry out mass deportations. Trump referred to immigrants who commit violent crimes as "animals," leading to controversy, and his campaign later attempted to clarify that the term was meant to describe those committing such acts.
