  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Unconfirmed reports are that the GOP's position is that the victims should have been armed so they could return fire.
Those darn red states with their oppressive gun control laws!

Apparently the carry laws in Missouri are very lax (so many may have been armed) and there were almost 1000 uniformed officers present in the crowd.

Apparently two of the three being held are juveniles.
The third person has been released as not having been involved. The two juveniles remain in custody.

The police chief said Thursday that it’s still unclear how many people were involved in the Wednesday shooting. “I don’t have a specific number of actors in this that perpetrated the violence that played out,” Graves said at a Thursday news conference.

Now as the investigation continues, bullets and shell casings left behind at the scene are key to determining whether there’s a possible connection to the people in custody as well as any other possible suspects, a law enforcement source told CNN.

I just read that Taylor Swift has donated $100,000 to the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan. She was the lady who was killed in this tragic mass shooting. It was published by foxnews earlier today. I admire anyone who helps others in times of need. The family had a goal of $75,000 on Gofundme and Taylor gave two $50,000 contributions.

America in 2024......it's so sad that our children have to grow up in this environment.

A 10-year-old who was also wounded in the shooting, Samuel Arellano, told CNN affiliate KSHB he knew to hide because of the active shooter training he got at school.

“They showed me what to do — duck down, hide, don’t run,” he told the station.

The boy said he ran to hide behind a trash can, but was still hit. “One of them hit me while I tried to face toward my grandpa and my uncle and my cousin,” Samuel said.

“It felt like getting stabbed,” he said, describing the wound that his family said narrowly missed his lungs.

“It could’ve been inches from my whole future,” the child said.

Yeah that is how it happens when everybody has a gun. :sigh:

And sadly, "in the heat of the moment", those fearful gun toters commit "crimes of passion" when their inhibitions fail to control the impulse to pull their weapons. Even when friends try to deter them.

I found it somewhat disturbing in wing2000's article that the ten year old boy knows what being stabbed feels like too. He compared being shot with being stabbed. The little guy is only ten years old. What is going on in Kansas...city?

Missouri GOP leaders dismiss calls for tougher gun laws after KC shooting

House Speaker Dean Plocher, R-Des Peres, said in a news conference Thursday “laws alone” don’t solve the problem of gun violence.

Plocher was pressed on a measure House Republicans voted down last yearthat would’ve made it illegal for minors to possess firearms in public.

Amid continued questioning on guns, Plocher abruptly ended the press conference without committing to additional firearm restrictions.

The Republican majority during last year’s legislative session rejected virtually all gun limits supported by Democrats, including risk protection orders to confiscate guns from dangerous individuals and efforts to bar the purchase of semi-automatic firearms for teenagers.

The Legislature’s GOP majority has worked to loosen Missouri’s gun laws, enacting a permitless carry law in 2016 and declaring certain federal gun laws invalid in 2021. (Federal courts have blocked the law, and the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to allow it to take effect.)
