You know what would be hilarious? If this was all a trap for dissident priests. Francis all this time has been playing the long con, making them think he's their ally, laying breadcrumbs over the past 10 years and then drops a declaration like Fiducia Supplicans. All the dissident clergy are like "yay our vision for a ruined church is being realized!" And then Pope Francis is like "GOTCHA SUCKAS" and excommunicates all the James Martins of the Church.

Ahhhh a guy can dream.

The Vatican has slapped down a Kentucky Catholic Church after a bishop gave a 'private blessing' to a lesbian couple.

Wearing a long rainbow-colored scarf, the Very Reverend Richard Watson blessed the couple at Historic Saint Paul Catholic Church in Lexington on December 31.

The church shared an image of the ritual via Facebook on New Year's Day, with the caption: 'History was made Sunday at Historic Saint Paul Catholic Church.
'This same-sex couple, civilly married for 22 years, asked for a blessing which Fr Richard freely offered according to the guidelines in Fiducia Supplicans.'

But the Vatican disagreed with this interpretation of the 2023 doctrine, issuing a press release to counter it.

Wait...how could they be civilly "married" for 22 years if gay "marriage" wasn't legal in Massachusetts until 2003? Was it in Canada or a different country?

Out of curiosity wasn’t that the same bishop who promptly suppressed all Traditional Latin Masses in the weeks immediately following Traditiones Custodes?

Perhaps the Vatican, with all of its mewling about "misinterpretation" of the document, should simply admit that the document was far too wide open to misunderstanding, misapplication, and abuse at the outset, and either issue a clarification on the document in no uncertain terms, or, better yet, simply withdraw the stupid thing to begin with.

I don't think that will happen under this Pope ... hopefully the next Pope will remove this stain from the Church.

I'm afraid I don't see evidence of this being a specific rebuke of that church in Kentucky. I think they are actually referring to the cardinal Fernandez very general and muddy 'clarification'. A rebuke would have been addressed to the local bishop asking HIM to do something about it. Is there any evidence of that? Has there been any evidence of a correction of James Martin? Let me know if that happens.
